I saw my eye dr. today. I noticed a full year ago that in snapshots, one of my eyes looks different for the other. I said that one "drooped". Well, I am out of contacts, so I went for a regular check up today. The eye dr. is VERY concerned. He did a ton of tests...almost two hours worth. He poked me IN the eye over and over with some gauges, flipped my eyelids inside out and inspected them, and tons of others. In the end, he can't actually decide if it is one lid that is drooping or one eye that is bulging. Since I moved here after my last exam, he doesn't have anything to compare the tests to from today. Now, instead of going back in a year, or even two, I have to go back in less than three months...for all the tests to be done over again. I asked him what this could be..and he never did answer me straight. I am a whole lot worried now. Good news, though, is that he sees no reason for me to quit wearing contacts..and my rx is the same as last time!

I don't want to scare you any more than you already are, but I would let your regular/family doctor know what is going on as well. A droopy/bulging eyelid or eye can indicate a lot of things, from the mundane infection cleared with antibiotics; to some very serious conditions that aren't so easily cured. Also, if you remember who your last eye doctor is, you may be able to have your records forwarded to your new doctor after signing some privacy waivers. Most places do charge a small fee for forwarding records to cover copying and shipping costs. I really hope things aren't serious. I'll be praying for you!! :hugs: ray:

Jennifer, I don't want to upset you either, but my mom had this and it ended up being CP I think, but it went away. It comes and goes. Maybe it's just Mommy Fatigue:love:

It can be from a lot of different things--most likely the thing that they actually touched your eye with was something called a tonometer. First your eye is numbed on the surface and then they rest a thing on your eye that measures how much pressure is in your eye--I am only guessing but I am almost positive that's what it was. That in itself isn't very concerning--some doctors use that routinely instead of the little "air puff" test (which do the same thing) too much pressure is a sign of glaucoma. I am not suggesting that this is what would be causing your issues. The lid droop or eye bulging can be different things. Do you have hormone "issues" (thyroid?) there are just so many things that could cause it--but I would try not to worry a whole lot about it (I know easier said) but maybe follow up with your regular MD.
Did you see an optometrist or opthalmologist? Did they ask to consult with your family doctor? There are many things that you can detect with routine eye check-ups, but your medical doctor would be able to fast-track testing for lots of stuff your eye professional might suspect, meaning, your eye doctor isn't going to draw blood, do labs, etc. your eye professional will give you their best guess and refer. (unless it's only related to the eyes)

He didn't numb my eye...but it was like a tire pressure gauge being put in it..looked similiar, too! I am not sure what kind of dr. he is, but he specializes in hard to fit contacts. I don't have a regular dr. up here..but I do think I am going to call around and get in. I am worried. (Oh, and he asked about my thyroid, which I have never had a problem with.)

Thats what I was going to mention. A bulging eye is usually an indicator of thyroid disease. You should probably have yours checked even if you haven't had problems before it can creep up on you for no reason at all.

Jennifer, was this an opthomologist that you saw? If not, I would suggest seeing one, they are much more specialised than a optomitrist.

Do you have any numbness or tingling on your face? My eye lid drooped once and the left side of my face was tingly and numb. It ended up that I had Bell's Palsey caused by stress. It eventually went away, but I thought I had had a stroke.

I had the drooping eyelid for about 8 months. I went to my family dr. about it and he referred me to an eye dr. They tested me for Myasthenia Gravis. My test came back negative and I haven't had the drooping since then.

Good Luck!

I looked up the symptoms of having a problem with your thyroid, and I don't think I have any. BUT, I am going to call around for a dr. anyhow.
