We have to goto a surprise 40th party for a friend of ours, it's at a Country Club. At the bottom of the invite, it says Cocktail attire? What is it? My first thought was a black dress type thing., but not 100% sure. I don't wanna go in there with my black dress, and be too overdressed. Help me out ladies.

First of all my thought is that you can not be "over dressed!" I feel worse when I am under dressed for an occasion!
I would say that the little black dress is perfect! Dress it up with some cute shoes and jewlery.

I think cocktail attire would include a nice dress or suit that is not too wild. Just don't show up in Kakhi pants and a sweater. I think men would be good in slacks and a dress shirt.
That's just my opinion!

I was going to say little black dress, too. How funny that we all jump to the same phrase.
LOL

Definitely little black dress is what I'd say. Don't worry about being too dressed up. Just don't wear to much jewelry (get completely dressed, jewelry too, then take one piece of jewelry off).

Little black dress sounds good. This is what I wore to my company Christmas party that was "cocktail" attire:

I wore black dress pants (they were kind of silky) and heals.

I agree on the little black dress...you can't go wrong with that. If it were a party we were going to...DH would probably wear a suit or at the very least, slacks, shirt/tie and jacket.

We went to a party when we lived in Europe and the invitation said "Smoking Attire". L.OL! We had a heck of a time figuring that one out!

Have fun!
