I am looking into getting a laptop, now I am looking at Dell and Apple. Dell I know has windows. Now Apple runs Mac, can they intercombine?
If I type something at work in MS word can I open and work on that on an apple? Help!

I'm far from a computer whiz, but I do work with Microsoft Software (kind of). From some of the application CD's I've seen, they have MS for Mac.
I did ask a computer person at work and she said that the files will be compatable.

Hi. I'm a mac. I am better quality than a Dell, and yes, I can run your Windows applications with my software which comes with your machine. You may have to reformat at times, but I know my job well. I do have some issues in downloading certain things, like certain surveys, which are written for only Windows applications, but if you use Internet Explorer, not Safari or Mozilla like my typer, you will be ok, and I do take Explorer, so it all depends on what software you want. Do take the time to stop by an Apple store, as my salespeople should be pretty well trained, and there's a genius bar there where you can ask questions. I'm fun, and you can get a macmini very inexpensively, and the footprint is very small. Be sure to ask if there are any refurbs in back, to save money. And, if you are a student, teacher or homeschool, you can get an education discount.
Have fun! Once you go mac, you won't go back!

The world uses PC's... they're fixable (hardware & software issues) - where as on a Mac, most hardware issues mean it has to be sent to a mac authorized repair shop, and most software issues mean you have to reformat. AND PC's are much much cheaper.

Ironically enough, even with the battling commercials (Vista VS. MAC)...Microsoft and Apple are owned by the same Company...And the software is compatible on both...

I strongly recommend AGAINST buying Dell. Their customer service is awful. My husband's previous laptop (the one he had before this one) constantly had hardware problems - right out of the box!
We have Compaq / HP laptops right now. They're pretty good.

Actually, Microsoft and Apple are not the same company at all. Bill Gates was Apple at one time, but that broke off long, long ago. It's actually an ongoing love/hate relationship.
To be frank, Apple's laptops are more expensive, (I run the desktop version, which I got for around $600 - macmini, not a laptop). Therefore, I would be sure to try both types - you will find with a PC, there are a lot of additional peripherals you have to buy which may be resident in the mac, so that cost may be offset - I would go to Best Buy or Circuit City and check it out. But checking out the Apple store would be enlightening - their reps are better trained than Best Buy's reps (including any rep on site from the mfr. Have them tell you why you should go mac.
I posted in Product Talk today that Dell has just opened a call center in the Philippines (sp?). Oh joy.
One down side to Apple is that after the initial warranty period, if you don't buy the service plan, they charge for technical phone calls. I've heard others do it now. BUT, side by side, Apple has less hardware problems.
I used to be a buyer for HP products. They and Compaq are decent products, but ensure that you aren't oversold and that you will get the service you need. Try to avoid IBM - that stands for I Buy Macintosh. You will have to invest in many peripherals, unless they've changed in recent years, which I doubt. Also, avoid non-national or off brands. They are made with inferior brand parts way too often, and often use used/refurbished parts inside. That's a no-no, but it happens.
I really think you would be best off doing some hands-on shopping, though. (I personally would avoid Compaq.)
