My dh has either misplaced or lost 3 checks, 2 of them were made to cash one was endorsed to me. If I endorsed the back of these checks can they be cashed by someone other than myself? He is waiting to hear from the people who wrote the checks to see if they have been cashed yet. If not I want to put a stop payment on them, as I would rather lose $75.00 than $500.00. If someone else has cashed these checks what action should I take next? I am so upset by this situation. Any advice or knowledge of this would be appreciated.

surely that would ask for ID to cash them?!

If they are endorsed, they can be cashed. Ideally they would ask for ID from the person cashing them, but in my experience, that rarely happens. I hope that you can get a stop payment on them before then.

Just got a call in from one of the people, her check has not been cashed she is calling to put a stop payment on it. Now I may find it. As for the other 2 checks still waiting on.

I am trying not to be mad at dh as I know he would never lose on purpose but if he would of went to the bank when I gave him checks (he was on his way out anyway) we would not be having this problem.

yes they can be cashed if they are enorsed all the have to do is sign under your name and most banks and credit unions will accept them. i would put a stop on them

yikes! Well, have you looked everywhere for them? Maybe he dropped them in his car or something? If not I would have the people stop payment on the right away so you aren't out all that money. DH probably feels horrible Chin up maybe they'll pop up!

We have looked everywhere we could possibly think of. Still waiting for the call back on the other checks. It was to late to call anyone last night when he realized he didnt have in his possesion and of course the dads dropped off. Both of them said to ask their spouse.

this is why I always just depoist them and always put "For deposit only" on them and my account number they will not give cash back when cashing when you do t hat
