Question:

When you buy something from a seller on Ebay do you expect them to leave feedback for you before you leave feedback for them?

I have had two sellers contact me asking me to leave them feedback. I am thinking: I paid you first, you show good faith and leave feedback for me FIRST and then I will leave feedback for you. By them not leaving feedback for me, they are making the sale conditional on how I respond to their sale. That is unfair.

I know when I sell something to someone, I ALWAYS leave positive for them if I had zero problems with their payment. Sometimes they leave feedback and sometimes they don't, but I don't penalize them by not acknowledging they sent their payment to me.

If I held up my end of the bargain and paid them in a responsible and timely fashion, they should be leaving me feedback to show I am a good customer...not because they are doing me a favor by saying "you leave positive feedback for me, I will leave feedback for you". Does that sound unfair to you?

As a seller, I wait for the buyer to leave feedback first. I like to see that the buyer recieved thier item and they are happy with it. IF not, I HOPE they email me to work out a resolution. The problem with me leaving feedback first, was if they weren't happy with thier item, and I already left them feedback and they turn out to be a ROTTEN buyer, then I've wasted my feedback. Does that make sense??

This doesn't happen to me often, but I am just protecting myself. I DO know people that this has happened too and they are the same as me, they wait to leave feedback for the main purpose of making sure a buyer is happy with their item.

There is quite alot of debate about who should leave feedback first. This is JMO though.

Interesting

I can see your point, however, I refuse to give feedback for someone if they can't leave feedback for me first. That's just not fair.
I guess because I am a straight shooter and a fair person. I would handle situations the right way. If there is a problem the seller would know about it. I would'nt just leave negative feedback first, however, I know not everyone is like that.

I agree with you Christy. That's always pi**ed me off when the seller refuses to post feedback until I do. Sort of holding the feedback "hostage". Some of them even say in their listing that if you leave negative feedback they will too. Yuck!!

EXACTLY

as the seller, this becomes a problem. I wouldn't sell anything on ebay that I wouldn't put my own kids in or buy myself. BUT there are always those select few on ebay that are always trying to get something for nothing. YOu know that person that buys a shirt for $1 then complains about the small pinhole size spot, demands their money back wtihout returning the item, then you are the 'you kno what' and the threatening emails begin.

I always hold my breath when I send out items, because even though I think they are perfect, you just never know what someone else's definition of perfect is.

There are always newbies that will leave a neg first without contacting the seller. that has got to be so frustrating. thankfully, I have no negs, and I'm always quick to work out some sort of resolution even when I know I'm right, just to save my 100% feedback.

I can see your point, but SOMEONE has to leave it first. LOL Might just have to bite the bullet and do it first.

Leaving feedbacks regardless if you are a buyer or seller...it depends to me. I am either both.
If I sell items...I give feedbacks right away for quick payments. As a buyer..I wait until I recieve the item and then give feedbacks. You can contact the buyer to give them thier tracking number and remind them all the sellers terms and then ask them politely to give a feedback...but in my case it is 50/50. I only give negative feedbacks for non payment. I give neutral feedback for buyers who can not full fill thier obligation by my terms.

It is a total gamble...on internet auctions.

:D

Thanks for the replies.

I think I am going to choose to not give feedback until the seller steps up on her end. It's just simply not fair!

I'm the same way. I want to make sure they are happy.

LOL This bugs me too, I just can't stand feedback beggars! Nothing drives me more crazy than a ebayer emailing me telling ME to leave feedback. I'll leave when I'm darn good and ready!! And I'm the type of person that only sits down once a week or whatever and does it all at once. I just simply don't have the time to leave feedback after each and every transcation.
