DD came home the other day saying that this 5th grade girl gave her her phone number, cell and home. Well, Abby has been working on her phone number and address for school so she gave this girl her phone number. She couldn't remember the girls name. Well we get home and I look at the caller ID and there was this call that had come up "illinois Call" with a number that I didn't know. When I went through DD's bag I found the card the girl wrote her info on and the weird number was this girls cell number.

I said something to the sitter about it and she said that another little boy that goes there that is in kindergarden had the same thing.

Why would a 5th grader give there info to a 5 year old? How do I get DD to understand that she can't just give her info out to people she doesn't know? My first thought is that this girl is looking for kids to babysit but isn't that a little young? What would you think???

Maybe she's started babysitting or something? If you're really concerned about it, call the number and find out why she was calling...

If it was a child only a grade ahead, I wouldn't be too worried. However, I find it very odd that a child in such an advanced grade would give her phone number to a kindergartener.

I'm curious to know how your dd had contact with a 5th grader. At my dd's school, children in separate grades don't have the opportunity to intermingle during school hours.

I know some schools have older kids come and read to the younger kids!! maybe call your childs teacher and see if she has any idea!! or if she knows this other child!! just ta thouhgt!!
Plus If its not a good thing the teacher can try and stop it before things happen!! Im sure its innocent but it never hurts to be prepared!! also 5ht graders are perfect for momy helpers!! my dd who is preK has friends from church who are in Middle school.
but I know the faily well!!

Because we live in a smaller town, her bus has kids Pre-K thru 12th grade. They are usually seperated and this is a first since September.

If it were me, I'd call the number and ask!
I am just trying to teach my 5yo dd about strangers and how to locate a nice stranger
if she were lost or something. So I guess it's kinda the same with giving out the phone # to only mommy/daddy-approved people until they hit a certain age I guess! let us know the outcome!

If you can find out the 5th graders name, I'd get ahold of her parents. I'm not so worried about your child, but I'd be very concerned for that 5th grader! Her behavior isn't very safe.
