I have recently become addicted to selling (and buying) on Craigslist. What a MARVELOUS resource and it's FREE...LOVE IT. Out of curiosity I started browsing the child care section of the site and then had a thought.

You won't believe what I did. I posted an ad on Craigslist for "date night babysitter". In the ad I talked about being new to the area, talked about how good my boys are, and requested that the applicants have their own transportation, be flexible, courteous, have CPR/FIRST AID training, fun, and have at least 4 references for us to call. I then asked them if they were interested in contact me for an interview!!!

I am HOPING (fingers crossed) that we get some OU students applying. Their campus is about twenty minutes from here.

I'll let you know how it goes...and what the response is like.

What a great idea!! I use Craigslist as well but I have never thought of using it for that. Dh and I dont go out on dates much only b/c we dont really have a babysitter. I think I am going to have to do that. Thanks for the idea.

I might be the odd ball here- I would just be careful and not put out too much info on their.
I have heard of many good things- though also some not so good stories about Craiglist.
I would just not want someone to see and learn things that you would not like them too.

Just another thought if the OU campus is so close maybe put on ad around the campus.

Oh they won't be learning anything about our whereabouts until they answer our initial questionnaire. If we like the answers to that, and the phone interview, than we will invite them over to meet the kids and have a one on one with them too. Don't worry....we'll be careful

That would scare the crap out of me. I know people interview and hire babysitters and I know you just moved to a new place, but I can't imagine leaving my kids with a total stranger. Maybe this is why I never get out of this house...(of course, as we know, I'm afraid of everything)

I think it's a great idea! I was actually considering doing it, only for a mom's-couple-of-hours-out-while-dad-is-deployed type thing. If my friend's references don't pan out, I will be trying it.

As long as you're careful (which you obviously are!) it should work out well. Good luck!

Christy, just a suggestion. If you're wanting an OU student you might try contacting the school. When my children were younger we did that at a college near us and they had a list of girls wanting to babysit. So we did use them a few times. It is nice because they're older (I never wanted those 12 yr old sitters) and they could drive themselves, etc. So you might just try giving the school a call and see if they have any info for you.
