I guess it was the "best" kind of accident to be in. Husband was stopped and a guy on a bicycle wasn't looking and ran full steam into the back of the car. He dented the trunk and broke one of the tail lights. Poor guy was knocked unconscious, but seemed O.K. when the ambulance took him away.

Problem: no one got the guy's last name. We tried to call the hospital to see how he was doing but couldn't find out anything. The police report doesn't have his last name, either.

What do you do in a case like this, if someone in an accident isn't lucid enough to give you information? You can't rifle through his wallet, besides he couldn't be moved until the ambulance came. Any ideas?

I would think the police report itself would be enough to give the insurance company. If not, then I would call the police department back and ask them if they had more information to give you. It seems someone, either the hospital (I don't think they can give non family members any information) or the police would have to know this guys name eventually.

I'm glad your dh didn't get hurt...Did it look like the other guy was going to be okay?

Oh gosh, poor guy... I'm ashamed to admit it, but I did that once when I was a kid. I was riding down our driveway and it was a hill...and forgot to brake when I reached the bottom and woke up laying in front of that car. It's the only time I ever remember being knocked out or passing out at all.

I'm not sure there IS a way to find out who he is? I can't believe the police didn't check his wallet to see if there was an ID in it...or did they and there just wasn't one?

I would have thought that the police would have checked that after the ambulance arrived.

If the police couldnt get the info at the accident site, they should have met the ambulance at the hospital to get the information there, they need it for an accident report. Then you would have the information from the police by obtainin the accident report.

Bicylce accidents are so dangerous. My brother had one a few years ago - broke most of the bones in his face. He was a mess, but survived and recovered after many surgeries and a LOT of pain.
