We are about 3 weeks away from flying and I wondering if anyone knows about the new security measures regarding liquids? I have a 14mo. dd and I'll need to bring some milk and food since it's a 4 hr. flight, but wasn't sure if that was restricted. Also, does anyone know if you DON'T get your baby a ticket and she uses your lap, can you bring extra luggage for them and a carry on?

I am not sure about the restrictions for food exactly, but I do know that they allow formula for babies. Not sure about milk and juice. You might want to check the airline website. If you cannot bring it, you can purchase some once you go through security. Anything purchased after the checkpoint is allowed on the plane. They are pretty strict about other liquids. They must be less than 3 oz and be in a ziplock bag.

As for extra luggage, each member is allowed a carryon and a certain number of bags. This would include the baby.

Here's the website that tells you all the restrictions http://www.tsa.gov/press/happenings/threat-change.shtm ....not sure about a carry on if it is a Lap-child that probably depends on the individual airline since some planes have limited overhead space.

if u dont pay for a ticket for them then they dont get lugguage for themseleves it would have to be part of yours- i flew with my daughter when she was 13 months and i had to include her bag into my count.

I work for American and the restriction for carry on can be found on the TSA website, but with us baby food and formula is not restricted. As far as luagge if you didn't pay for the infant ticket you don't get luggage only paying passangers. But the car seat and stroller do not count against your luggage

You can also call the airline for help. I would strongly suggest you do get a ticket and use a carseat, though, for your baby's safety, and your comfort. Turbulence, eating, sleeping, and just plain sitting in one place for a long time. My son was used to having to sit still in his car seat and was so much more cooperative than he would have been in my arms, wanting to get down all the time.

I don't know about the restrictions but I think you are in for a world of uncomfortableness having a 14month old on your lap for four hours. Is there anyway you can get DD a ticket and her own seat? And not just for the safety stand point. DH and I just flew to Vegas and it was a close to 4 hours and 20 minutes and it was the most miserable amount of time I've ever spent on a plane. I can not imagine having to hold DD for that length of time and expect either one of us to be comfortable.

I would call your airline directly and double check. I have flown frequently with my kids and have never had a problem. You don't need a ticket for kids under 2, but no ticket means no seat, and no extra bags are allowed for that child, with the exception of a diaper bag not counting as a carry-on (at least most airlines I've been on). Also, most don't consider stroller/carseat to be included in your baggage count, but double check b/c each airline is different. You shouldn't have an issue bringing snacks and a drink for the baby, but if you can bring juice that's sealed that might make it easier unless still using formula. I'd also separate it into clear bags so the screening is easier. Like I said, I've never had a problem, but it can be a long, frustrating process. Safest bet is to know what you want to bring and just check with your airline to be sure. Good luck!

If you get a seat for your baby, make sure the car seat is also safe for airlines - it needs to say it specifically or it's not safe on a plane.

We bought tickets for our daughter from the time she was nine months old and it was MUCH easier flying. Good luck on your trip!
