I actually just went to The Mall Of America and we did a doll for my two year old dd, She got to fix her hair and dress her and stuff her. We also got to pick out a voice and put a wish into her body. It was really cool. I have also been to Build A Bear and my kids were allowed to do everything, my oldest even got to sew her bear up. I think it would be very special for your baby.

At the Build-A-Bear here they had a special bear that was specifically for babies through 3yrs., the eyes and nose are embroidered on and they had a different kind of stitching. It is really cute. My DD's made one and picked a shirt that said "It's A Boy!" and brought it to the hospital when DS was born.

I built a bear one year on vacation. I was horrendously sick with a headache so bad that I wished my head would fall off so it would stop...so my xh took me to build one hoping to make me feel better. I don't even remember having to put a heart in my bear, but I do remember doing everything manually...stuffing it manually AND sewing it up myself. But then again, that was several years ago...LOL

Thanks for all the input ladies! I am thinking that the eyes were stitched but I will have to double check that.

I really wanted to make sure we could do it ourselves because I don't want it too stuffed either. I want it to be soft and floppy not stiff where it sits up. (if that makes sense)

I will just tell the employee at ours that I want to do it myself and see what they say. Since it looks like some stores let you do it and some they do it themselves.

Thanks again!

And yes I too think they can be a bit overpriced and is not something we will do often I just thought it would be neat to do this once for the baby. We won't be doing any accessories or outfits either.
