Getting older bothers him more than me so I thought he might not want a party or whatever. But he has asked me on 2 different occasions if i was doing anything. I'm assuming he wants something. I have no idea what to do for him.

Do you have enough time to throw together a party? I'd do that...Dh told me over and over he didn't want a party for his 40th...A year later he says he wishes he had wanted a party then... WTH??!! They say women are bad that way...saying one thing but meaning another...Men are JUST as bad.

Can you two get away together for a few nights? If so, take him somewhere that has things he would like to do and enjoy some time together. If that doesn't work, maybe some sports events tickets for him and one of his good buddies.

I was thinking of an overnight getaway,
dinner with friends in a restaurant,
meeting friends at a bar,
a surprise party where we would have to be out of the house.

What about a surprise party while we are still in the house. I could stash the drinks elsewhere, buy a cake etc. Have people bring appetizers etc. He'll answer the door and people will just keep showing up. This way I don't have to try to get him out of the house somehow. Or worried people would be parking in front of the house. whatya think?

Any other suggestions are appreciated.

My dh turns 40 in Nov. He is already hinting, too. I could get one together with family and church friends (we have no other friends up here), but I don't think I can make it a suprise! Any ideas would be SO appreciated! I thought about having it at a restaraunt, but to be honest, I can't possibly swing paying for everyone's meals, and I wasn't sure how to word it to make sure no one expects me to!
