I have a really good friend who deals with this. I know the ups and downs are scary, but hang in there. Think positive, and we are all praying for you.

I also don't know about this disease so all I can say is take it a day at a time. Don't jump to conclusions that this is a life ending illness. As per another post, stress will not be good. You have every right to be scared about your health but try to stay calm, focused and determined to get this thing under control. Take deep breaths.

As far as seeing a specialist, always consider a second opinion too. Especially if they're recommending something extreme.

I'll say a prayer for you. Try to take it easy. I know, easier said then done. Lean on Brian now, if you can.

Keep us updated on your progress. You'll be fine. You'll get through this with flying colors!

Stephanie,
I do not know anything about your medical conditiona. but I wanted you to know that I am thinking of you. I am glad that Brian wants to go to the specialist with you. I think that is a good idea. Remember we are always here for you when you need us!

I also have hypothyroidism...and I'm starting to think my levels are off. I go back to the doctor for my annual appt. at the end of this month and will talk to him about it then. I don't get tired in the sense of being sleepy, but I get so physically tired. It's like trying to tow a school bus with a rope tied around my waist just to get moving sometimes. I wasn't aware that heart palpitations were a sign...I've had those my whole life!

Hang in there and do what the doctor says. If you think the endocrinologist is off, get a second opinion. You are young and deserve your good health..and once you feel better physically, you'll feel better about life in general!

I am assuming you have hyperthyroidism considering your dr mentioned heart palpitations. In 2002 I developed Severe Hyperthyroidism. My resting pulse stayed between 97-125. My heart would pound so hard my entire body would shake with every beat. At times it would wake me out of deep sleep thats how bad it was. There were many times I honestly felt like I was going to die. So I do know exactly how you feel.

I didn't just get put on Synthyroid. I had a couple of Iodine uptake tests to see what my levels were exactly. That is when I got the diagnosis of Graves Disease...Severe Graves disease to be exact. My dr (primary dr) gave me the option of trying Synthroid to see if we could put it into remission. He then gave me all the side affects that I could possibly have. He also gave me the option to do Radioactive Iodine (RAI). Where I take 1 pill and hopefully it would kill my thyroid the 1st time. If not I would have to take another one. I chose to do the RAI. He told me with the rate my heart was going that I could possibly end up with permanent heart damage. Not something I wanted at the age of 31. The RAI did have some drawbacks such as having to stay 3 feet or more away from my kids or any other child. I also had to flush the toilet twice everytime I went. As the radiation was expelled thru my kidneys. Fast forward to now. I have been on more prescriptions than I can count thru the years. I don't feel completly normal but I don't feel completly awful.

Now on to you. I can't remember if you what you said the dr told you was from a reg dr or from the endo? In my opinion remember this is just my opinion from my experience. I really think you need to do some research on RAI. That or have your thyroid removed as Medicmama did. If your levels are that high "coma high" I would think your dr should have already discussed these options with you. I'm not saying you will feel normal after either of those options. I will say that you will feel better sooner if your levels have been that off for that much time. What you might not know is when your thyroid levels are that off it can cause you alot of other problems. Such as TED (thyroid eye disease) something that I also have because of my thyroid levels. It can also cause damage to your other organs. I don't want to scare you...I just want you to know what your options are. The way your dr put it to you wasn't the right way in my opinion. If you have been on Synthroid for a number of weeks and still don't feel any better then I think its time for either another dosage or another option.

Sorry to write a book...you just can't summarize it into one paragraph. Its one of those "been there done that" things the only difference is I am still doing it! You can always PM me if you have any other questions.
