I went back to the dr today about my thyroid condition. I'm going to see an endocheroligist (however you spell it) My MD has been on maternity leave and a I've been seeing the dr covering for her. Anyway I go and my MD says with what my levels were when I was first diagnosed I should have been admitted into the hospital. She said with what my levels are she's seen people in a coma in the hospital. This is not good news at all. I'm 28 years old I should not be worrying about this stuff. Thoughts are running through my head like crazy, but she said if I get the heart palpatations and chest pains again to get to the ER. Apparently what is happening is my body is adjusting to the new level of Synthroid and then after about 8 weeks it's dropping down to where it was in the very beginning. I'm so scared. I did call Brian today at work and met with him and he said he wants to go to the specialist with me. I'm so scared and the more I think about the more I cry. What will I be to my kids and how can this happen to me at this age. Could it have been prevented, What causes this. Please say a prayer for me. I'm just scared to death now.

Did your doc recommend doing anythign else? Did she/he give you any literature or a website you can refer to for additional information? Are there support groups?

I am so sorry you are going through all of this. Stay strong for both you and your kiddos. We're here for you to keep your spirits high. We'll help you get through this.

I don't know a lot about this condition, but from what I do know is that it's a little like diabetes, in that, yes, it can be dangerous, but can be brought under control, and as long as you maintain the healthy lifestyle and medicine, and get the blood tests regularly, as the Doctor suggests, you can go on to live a healthy, full life. My understanding is that it is more a condition that you manage, than a disease. Hopefully the doctor can get you some basic info and you can find out more, maybe on the web. I start with about.com a lot for basic info and go from there. Good luck to you. It's no fun having something else so important on your plate, but you are a very important person to your family and have to take care of you.

Having ups and downs is very scary but is a real part of this condition. I would talk to the doctor about your fears. Stress will play a big role in how your body adjusts, and you've had stress all around lately. See if there is a support group- even an on-line one- for you to join. If you can, keep a "take charge" attitude about your illness- you know your body best. When you take your meds every day, remind yourself you are doing everything you can to help your body feel better. If you are feeling off, get your levels checked ASAP, don't wait until your next scheduled appt. Find a doctor you are really comfortable with and who listens to you. Every body will react differently to the medication, and maybe you don't follow the textbooks- so you will need a doc who can think "outside the books". This is a very manageable disease for most people, even if it just all seems overwhelming at first.

It's good that you have someone to go with you to your next appt. Keep us posted. You will be in our prayers.
