I am having a C-Section Friday and I am doing pre-op at the hospital on Thursday morning. I am wondering what to expect of this? I know I will probably do some paper work and such. Anything else anyone can tell me? I think I am doing the preop in labor and delivery...

They'll most likely draw blood, too. They did with my planned c/s. I think that's all I had to do, though, before I was admitted the morning of. Although, have you done all the pre-admittance paperwork~insurance, all that fun stuff? Maybe that's what it is, too. HTH

You will probably read and sign consent forms. They will do blood work and just a mini physical to make sure you don't have anything going on - such as a virus or cold. They may even do a chest x-ray. Then on the day on the c-section - they will start the IV - put in catheter and start giving you the 'I don't care medicine' to make you relax. I had a Spinal block in 1998 for my C-section - and they administered this when we got into the OR. Good Luck....

Sorry, both my csections were emergencies. I didn't even have 5 minutes before they were wheeling me into the the operating room. I know they made me get on a scale when I got to the L & D, took blood, monitored fetal and my heart rates, did the catheter and an IV. It went all so fast, I didn't really know everything that was going on. I'm sure a planned csection would be a lot more organized!

A pre-op appointment usually mean a physical, to make sure you're physically able to undergo anesthesia.

I've had two scheduled C-sections, but I never had to go in for a pre-op visit. I don't know why you're having one, but I am thinking they might do an ultrasound to check on baby's position etc. I'm sure they will do a blood draw.
Do you need to know what happens on the day of the surgery? I won't burden you with the details in case you'd rather not know some things, but would be happy to tell you my experience if you'd like. Feel free to PM me.
Good luck, best wishes & Congrats!

My first was an emergency c-section, my second was a planned repeat. I went in for pre-op the day before (also in labor and delivery) and all we did was paper work. At this point in the pregnancy, I'm sure you've been seen by an ob recently enough that they are up to date on all things, right? I had just had an appt. the day before my pre-op appt, so maybe that is why we only had to do paper work.
