I know this probably belongs in the Decorating section but I have a question about wood blinds. We get full afternoon sun on the back of our house and it gets so hot. There's a bay window in the kitchen and DH wants to put wood blinds up to block out the sun. I have been pricing blinds online

Does anyone have wood blinds? Do the faux wood blinds work in blocking out the sun? Do they look real or cheap? Is it worth the investment to get the real wood?

Love wood blinds! We had them in our kitchen, breakfast nook and two of our bathrooms back in our old house. I got them at Smith & Noble. They have a great selection and awesome customer service. The blinds in the bathroom were actually not wood and they looked like wood though...at least to us. They were called 'durawood'. You can ask for a sample before you buy, most places seem to offer that. They offer just as much light control as real wood. They were easy to keep clean etc

Smith+Noble - Custom window treatments, custom blinds, shades, drapery, curtains, custom window coverings

Wood reallly does keep heat out better - plastic fades and warps. I've got both blinds and shutters and checked out the faux market before buying - glad I went wood. The blind company (separte from where I got my shutters and wood blinds) talked me into the vinyl that looked like cloth when I bought verticals for the patio door due to the need to keep them clean. I hate them. Seven of the vanes have broken. Waste of a few hundred dollars!
