I hope you creative/artistic ladies can help us. . .

We have received several invitations to high school graduation parties. Because dh is a high school teacher, we will probably get several more. We simply can't afford to give each graduate cash or little gifts. It was really poor planning on our part!

I was thinking that I could include something nice in their cards. What do you think would be good? A poem? A saying? Does anyone have a cute idea on how to do that? I'm not sure if I want to just print something onto cardstock, or do something a little "fancier". I don't scrapbook, but I can follow directions! So if anybody has an idea, please, please share it.

Thank you so much!!!

Maybe just a hand written note from your husband to the student would be nice in the card..

If you write a poem... a small one perhaps.. you can buy those self laminating sheets.. and make them like a little pocket book card??? You know like the kinds you can buy, but you made this one, and maybe on the other side like above said "name, address" so the student can reach later on if needs advice if your DH is up to that?? I'm kinda in the same boat, my baby sister is graduating this year, and I knwo many of the kids graduating with her, I used to be there soccer coach.. Soo I do have gotten invitations.. Now I have to figure out what I am going to do for them..

Do you bake? If so, you could include a postcard with a stamp on it addressed to you and already made out with something like "please send cookies" and you could put a checklist of the type if you like. When the recipient mails you the card, you send them a care package of cookies to their dorm. That way your initial layout will not be much and it shouldn't cost to much to mail the packages when the post cards arrive.

Whenever I graduated a few teachers (of course my favorite ones!) gave me a card with a note inside of it (most of them wrote positive things in it) and all of them gave me their personal phone number and asked if I ever needed help with anything to give them a call (in regard to references and help in the future)- that meant a lot to me and I still have the cards they sent me (and it will be 11 years since I received those cards!). I think doing that would be appreciated and very thoughtful- sometimes the most impressive gifts are those with the most thought!

Editted to add: I also think the cookie idea is a nice one!

Those are some great ideas ladies. I like the idea of him being avail. for references in the future and the cookie idea is super cute. Even if you don't bake you can send store bought ones.

We have this same issue as my husband teaches high school too! A few years ago a group of teachers at his school each gave ten dollars and then sent all of the money (usually at least $300) to the Nature Conservancy. The Nature Conservancy then plants a grouping of trees in the classes name. ______ School, Class of 2007. Then they print a little slip of paper that tells what they have done and all of the teachers who have participated and that little slip goes into each card. We have done this the past 5 years or so. My husband also writes each student a special note with a memory from the year. I am sure that my husband has the info. on who you could contact at the Nature Conservancy, pm me if you are interested. The kids are always very appreciative and we only spend $10 total (plus cards -99cents each at Walmart)... I hope this makes sense and helps. I am sure that there are lots of charities that the teachers could pool money to in the classes' name....
