I have actually left the playground before because a couple brings their really rowdy golden retriever there and encourages him to jump and slide, etc. Sizewise - my 1 year old getting plowed down by the dog is the same as your or I being plowed down by a horse or cow, which would frighten most grown people. These people laughed and said - oh you must not be dog people, but she's not really a dog - she's our baby. So, my disgust in the playground senario isn't really the germs, because playgrounds are already dirty, it's the insensitivity of the dog owners. Playing with a large strange dog isn't good therapy for my toddler, as they said, it will probably just make her more scared of dogs.
I think that dog people are welcome at my park if there are no children there - it is a park for children - not dogs. Our city spends lots of tax dollars on a dog park - the dog owners should use it. Plus - our parks here clearly state with a huge sign, that dogs are not allowed off the leash because it is a children's park.
The blocks - yuck. Also, all the comments about the cats - yuck.
