I took Stetson to the ped today, but they won't be able to "see" him until next week. Can someone PLEASE tell me what they think this may be. A dear friend says it looks like Exema, but I am SO worried because my family has bad psoriasis. Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

*Note: he doesn't seem to notice it, and it doesn't seem to hurt him.*

It does look like eczema and it's very common in babies. If you do a Google Image search for exzema you'll see a lot similar to your son's. Your doctor will most likely prescribe a cream which will help, but I don't believe it cures it. When my son had it my husband made an herbal wash for it. His wasn't as severe, but it did clear up and never came back.

Sweetie, you need a new ped and NOW. Our ped has same day appts. if baby is sick or it's urgent. They have separate waiting areas for sick and well, they have Saturday appts. for sick children. Not all peds do, but there's no reason why a nurse couldn't look at your baby. Less than 5 mins. There is a higher level of care out there and you and your baby deserve it. I don't like the formation - a circle of this. Do you have an accessible, affordable Urgent Care? Call around for a new ped. tomorrow.

It could very well be eczema, but I agree with desertmom!!! You deserve a higher level of care!! If you have concerns about your baby you should be able to get in.

Don't like the looks of that either, and yes, it COULD be eczema. However, your Dr's office SHOULD have let you come in! I never heard of any ped office refusing service for something that looks so bad! Did you tell them that he just had a little rash, or that it really looks bad? If you told them how bad it looks & how concerned you are, they really should have seen you TODAY! (Or tomorrow AM at the latest.)

And for what it's worth, my DS had light exema as a baby, and the ped told me to use hydrocortisone cream on it (never got anything presciption because it was only a light case). But, really, call around for an appt with a better ped office! If you're current one is a solo practice with only one DR, then try to find one that has multiple physicians - easier to get in on a urgent care same day appointments that way.

Ditto to everything that everyone else said. Not getting into the dr is BS.

Hydrocortisone cream is what I'd use until it starts to clear up. You should also stop using soaps, shampoos and laundry soap with fragrance or harsh chemicals. My 2nd daughter had excema occasionally on her face, knees and feet. She still gets it when her allergies are bad. I use Aveeno bath stuff when it's bad and follow up with something like Eucerin or Elta when she gets out of the tub.

Sorry i didn't explain better. I DID take him in, but they were closing. They made an appointment for next Wed, and told me until then to continue putting A&D ointment on it and to try an anti fungal cream (which to me would be too harsh for a baby's skin). The nurse looked at it and acted like it wasn't anything bad and said he may have to go to a pediatric dermatologist. Stetson uses All Baby detergent (like Dreft) and a hypoallergenic baby wash made by Huggies. I wash his towels, sheets, blankets, EVERYTHING separately.

You're right. It might be psorisis. As you probably know some forms of psorisis is associated with inflammatory arthritis. Better you know now than later.

Your absolutely adorable baby isn't showing signs of illness except for the rash so I agree it is best to wait until next week when the doctor can give you some undivided attention.

When did the rash start? Has it recently changed?

Measure it every day. If it is getting larger or new outbreaks develop, especially if they get near his eye or you see patches inside his mouth or around his bum, urgent care - or even the ER - is a reasonable course of action. Likewise if he develops new symptoms like a fever or becomes lethargic, don't wait! It doesn't have to be eczema or psorisis. There are tons of skin infections and inflammations that look like that (and it is hard to tell in the pictures).

Try to remain calm over the weekend. Let us know.

Poor little guy! As a mom of 3 out of 4 kiddos with horrible eczema, I can't really tell for sure by the pictures. Does it ooze at all? Is he scratching at it? All of my guys dig at it because it normally itches and it weeps.

You may want to try washing his clothes in All Free and Clear or Purex Free--my guys were allergic to Dreft.

Hope you find an answer soon and get it cleared up!
