Don't like the looks of that either, and yes, it COULD be eczema. However, your Dr's office SHOULD have let you come in! I never heard of any ped office refusing service for something that looks so bad! Did you tell them that he just had a little rash, or that it really looks bad? If you told them how bad it looks & how concerned you are, they really should have seen you TODAY! (Or tomorrow AM at the latest.)
ITA with Desertmom - please find a new ped! Pronto!
And for what it's worth, my DS had light exema as a baby, and the ped told me to use hydrocortisone cream on it (never got anything presciption because it was only a light case). But, really, call around for an appt with a better ped office! If you're current one is a solo practice with only one DR, then try to find one that has multiple physicians - easier to get in on a urgent care same day appointments that way.
