My brother is getting married next month and I still need to get my ds(8) a suit. Dh & I are in the wedding but our kids are not. We want to get a formal picture done with just our family while everyone is all dressed up. Our girls are wearing matching pink dresses. My bridesmaid dress is celadon (a shade of green). Dh's tux/suit is black with white dress shirt. His tie is green & black diagonal stripes. He is also wearing a green vest.

What should I buy for ds so that we look nice together when we get our picture taken? I wanted to get ds a blue blazer with gold buttons but I think that would clash with dh. Should I get a black suit? What about the color of his dress shirt and tie? Also, should ds's shoes match the color of his suit? I'm so bad with this sort of thing. Ds usually wears khakis and a polo or oxford shirt when we dress up.

Also, the girls dresses are tea length. What do you think about wearing white or ivory ballerina slippers? My youngest dd has fred flintstone feet so I love the look of ballet slippers but have not been able to find some that are actual shoes & not the ones worn for dancing. Another thing I want to get them are big bows (kind of old fashioned) for their hair but should I get pink, white, ivory, green or something else?

I say black suit and shoes w/ white shirt for ds. Not sure about tie, I'd prob try to find something w/ pink and or green to match the dresses. I think the ballet slipper/shoes would be fine for the girls, and pink or white bows would be fine for their hair. or maybe either one mixed w/ the green.

And I have to share, some of my oldest and dearest friends have teased me as long as they've known me that I have Fred Flintsone feet! I used to have a real complex about it, was afraid to even get a pedicure because I thought they'd make fun of my feet! But I eventually got over it--I even got a picture of me sitting in the Flintstone's car in Gatlinburg a couple years ago and made it into a Xmas card for all of them and they loved it!

I think your son would look very nice in khaki or dark grey pants (maybe black but grey would be better) with a light green button-down Oxford shirt. I wouldn't worry about a tie. If you want to throw a sport coat over him, that would be fine - also in dark grey or black if it is a shade off from the pants or dark khaki if he is wearing the khaki pants. A 'camels hair' sport coat is very popular and very ritzy looking. Imitate that look for summer by going with a lighter weight material in carmel or dark khaki. He will blend well with your husband's dark suit without looking like a miniture adult. He will also look good with the green of your dress and the pink of the girls. He will look like one of the kids and dressed up.

Son's shoes should match his pants or his socks. If he wears dark grey black or burgandy shoes are fine. If he wears khaki go with dark brown or burgandy shoes.

If you want son wearing a tie for the pictures, get one that is complimentary to the outfit and hubby's tie but not matchy-matchy. I like young men who wear ties with a bit of whimsy in them like maybe a tie with Pokemon characters on it or something.

My philosophy is that weddings are really hard on kids. The reception doesn't tend to be that much fun for kids and it is even harder when they are so dressed up they are even afraid to sit. If your son is usually comfortable in khakis and a polo shirt, I wouldn't make him go much beyond his comfort zone.

I would probably go with a grey suit and a pink or green shirt for your son.

Just wanted to let you know I saw some really pretty ballerina type shoes at Payless for little girls. They actually had hard soles so they could be worn outside and came in a couple different colors. I have also seen these at Target but only in silver. HTH

I think he should also wear black like your dh but his tie should match the girl's dresses since you and dh will match. I can't wait to see the pics!

Check payless for the shoes. Ballerina style slippers are pretty popular right now.

Thank you all for your ideas. I am probably one of the worst people when it comes to color coordinating. My ideas always seem good until I see them in real life.

Anyway, we have kind of made a switch. I finally found some ballerina flats that would fit my youngest dd. They came from Target and have white glitter Target : Girls' Xhilaration® Marisela Glitter Ballet Flats - White, I was hoping I could find something without glitter but couldn't. My older dd has the same pair of shoes. I also switched the girls dresses because the pink ones had little senquins scattered all over and I thought that it would be a little over the top with the shoes. The girls are wearing this dress Product: Cinderella 3-6X Sleeveless Matte Satin Dress
I'm still not sure about what to put in the hair but am leaning more toward a bow.

Now my new dilemma regarding wedding attire. I have been looking for a suit for ds in his size but have not been able to find one in black or gray. Yesterday I was in TJ Maxx and I glanced down the little boys aisle and found a Van Heusen suit on clearance for----$15 (retail is $80). It was the only one left and then I held my breath when I looked at the size and wonder of wonders it was in his size (he wears a husky so not always easy to find). The only problem is that it is a dark navy blue. I couldn't even tell it was blue until I took it out into the sunlight. Do you think that would be ok or is navy a totally bad choice? I just couldn't pass up the $15 suit. If we are going to look ridiculous then I will keep looking for the black suit.

If navy is ok, then what color shoes? Also, would it be ok to put him in a short sleeve shirt or is that a no-no with a suit (I think I remember my dad telling my brothers not to wear a short sleeved dress shirt under a suit).

Cookie---where can I find a whimsical tie for an 8 year old? Oh, and ds actually liked having the suit on---we shall see how he reacts when he has to wear it all day.

Thanks everyone.
