Well, it took me having to go to the doctors for a dossey of a sinus infection to finally make the decision to STOP SMOKING!! My doc (not a patient until yesterday...he lives down the road from me and has seen all of my kids) has been at me for a while now to come in and get a check up...well I had to go yesterday. I'll be getting blood work and everything in a couple of weeks (going away next week) and I just have to pick my stop smoking day.

I've been wanting to do this for a while...I HATE smoking...it's disgusting in all aspects of it...and...I'm the only one sho hasn't quit in the house. I don't smoke in the house because I can't stand the smell of it or what it does to your belongings...but I only noticed that a few years ago.

I'm so looking forward to this and scared at the same time!! Once we've knocked the smoking habit - he's going to work on me with the weight I can't lose...he realizes there is more to me not being able to lose weight than just eating!!

I'm sooo excited!!! I should have done this years ago!!!

Wish me luck!!!!

That is awesome!! We are in the same boat, i quit yesterday. Usually i'm 1/2 a pack a day. But every day this week i've only had 1 or 2. So, i decided last night, no more. PM me if you ever need to talk or for support! I know it can be difficult.

Best of luck to you!!!!

Good for you! I quit smoking a few years ago, it was kind of scary at first (you figure that is a big life change) but as each day went by it got a little easier (remember to take asprin in the am and drink lots of water to flush that nicotine from your system)- the worst time for me was the first week- but then it became so much easier. The biggest mistake I made was after 1 year I decided that I could have one and not go back- big mistake! I am currently smoking now and I am planning to quit smoking by the end of the year (I would really like to lose some more weight though). Remember to try to pick up some healthy habits as you are in withdrawl- like when you crave a cigarette- do 50 sit ups or what I did was wait 5 minutes- you just make yourself busy and the feeling eventually passes!

Good Luck again! !

Thanks ladies for all the support...I'm actually looking forward to this.

My doctor actually gave me a prescription for Chantix to help stop smoking. It's fairly new (less than a year old) but has had a great track record. Every one of his patients that he has prescribed it to has quit smoking and has stopped taking the meds a little after a month. He's given me plenty of refills if needed - but he doesn't seem to think I'll use them. As he explained it to me...what this medicine does is block the receptors in your brain that "crave" the nicotine...not only that - it helps with all cravings!! He said I shouldn't gain any wieght with it (one of my biggest fears of quiting) and that many of his patients have claimed a loss of appetite with it!!

I will report back and let you all know how I'm making out!!

Thanks Again!!!

I quit when i was pregnet and never really started back up. I smoked I think one pack since then and it was over a 3 month period. I would only have one when I was really stressed right after we moved ( moved when baby was 8 months, moved 1300 miles away from where I lived for 7 years and even farther from my family whom live in NY and I moved from TX to WA) I have been smoke free for 14 months and still think I would really like a cig right now but I know if I was to have one it would taste nasty. I just try to think about that when I want one and what I will smell like after I have it. Once you get past the inital month you will be fine you will just have to get past the habit part of hand and mouth. Like others have said try to find a healthy habbit, carrot sticks celery sticks may help... When my mother quit she would get a straw or a pen and pretend. ( when she was on the phone since that is when she really wanted one) I know it sounds funny but what ever will get you throught that time. HTH and keep sharing with us updated
