What a nightmare! Knowing me, I think I would have FLOWN to the police dept...with my HAIR on fire!...and DEMANDED a city meeting on the spot! I would contact the mayor, definately!! Your taxes pay his salary. I also would check out the laws in your area (not sure if these kind of laws are statewide or different by county??) and see about starting a petition to get them changed.

I'm all about individual rights, but when it comes to pediphiles, there ARE no rights as far as I'm concerned. It's so sad that these WORST OF THE WORST offenders (IMO) do have them. What a world we live in.

Do check National Sex Offender Registry (familywatchdog), and Dru Sjodin National Sex Offender Public Registry (the National Sex Offender Public Record website.) I would also print a copy of his photo and show it to the bus driver, and your kids if you think it's appropriate.

Good luck to you. This makes me want to do another search for my area.

I don't blame you at all for not wanting this guy there. It just makes me sick!! Can you start a Petition to not allow him to move in? Do you have a homeowners association you can contact? If you can't do any of that I would definitely call and inform the school and see if you can get the bus route changed. That IMO is worse than him moving in by a school or daycare.

Thanks for the sites! Dh and I are going to sit down and talk w/ ds about it tonite and make him aware of this person. That is as soon as I can get dh calmed down! I know dh is going to be pissed.
Besides that I think notifying the school and bus drivers would be the next step. I know that the school is too far away to be notified by the police but that doesnt mean that I cant let them know that kids are being put at risk.

I understand your frustration but I do want to say at least they sent you a letter. Some don't even do that. Make sure you let your children know they are not to talk to strangers and especially this person.

I love that family watchdog website, it's very good- they show a picture, address, what the crime was, in what proximity to a school they live etc. It took quite awhile for Pennsylvania to get on there but I"m so glad they finally did. These losers should have no rights, no rights to keep that info private. They don't even the right, IMO, to be out of jail. S

I have to look it up but there is a website (at least for colorado) where you can look up where any registered sex offender lives. I think it is a must know for any parent. I will post it here when I find it again.

they should send em all to a deserted barren island where they have no hopes of survival and can die a slow and painful death.that said, go to whomever it is that in charge of your bus stop and scream your head off to have it moved, and if you can put out some fliers informing other parents of this sick pervert that is moving in.

Is this guy on active probation or parole? or did is offense happen so long ago that he's only required to register as a sex offender and report when he changes residences? I would ask local law enforcement these questions.

If he is on any type of active supervision, contact the local probation/parole office and give them heck. As a former probation/parole officer I would be in shock that your neighborhood would have been deemed a suitable place for this guy to live.

I would definitely notify the school & see if they can change where the bus stop is so that the kids will be safer. Maybe have a neighborhood meeting where parents can take turns being at the bus stop to greet the kids when they get off the bus.

There IS something you can do....I've read how neighbors have banded together and protested, including in the media, to the police and doing petitions. Call your local political leader, too. I assume you don't have an HOA, or that would have taken care of it. But be vocal, be loud and be strong. Sometimes I feel sorry that these guys have no place to go, but they do have places - they can live with the rest of the criminals!!! We've all talked about whether they can be reformed. I wouldn't want my child to be the guinea pig to prove the theories right or wrong. Good luck! Run him out of town!
