I did dd #1's at 9 months, and at the time they were a little uneven but they're fine now, dd #2 on the other hand had them done at 6 months at the dr's office and unfortunately they got infected or allergic or something a few months later so he said to take them out then let them heal and do over in a few months. We waited almost a year did them again at Libby Liu and she freaked after the first so the second was sooo low on her lobe that after a few months we had to take them out because we were scared the earring would just go right through. She's 2.5 now and were still waiting. doc says she's just prone to reactions and try again when she's older. She has some scar tissue so I'm not gonna torture her with this.

Overall though I would reccomend them getting them done at the docs office at their 6 year old checkup cuz with the other shots they get they won't really feel it and you'll be giving them tylenol for shots anyways. JMO

I had mine done when I was 5. I had always planned on getting dd's done when she was about 6 months but dh absolutly forbid me to do so. We compromised and I agreed that when they asked, I would do it. Well dd is 6 now and she does NOT want them! I ask her all the time, she is afraid to do it. Same with my other dd. I think dh scared them into not wanting it done. LOL

DH wants me to wait until she's at least 8. I don't have a problem with that. Mine were done when I was 5 (my birthday present), and I remember the daily hassle Mom went through with the cleaning, turning, et al.

They're her ears. It'll be her choice.

Jewelry is something my family really didn't wear. I begged to get my ears pierced for YEARS, and my mom told me I could have them done when I was old enough to sign for them myself (at 18). So, a few weeks before I turned 18, I went down and had them done (took me 2 or 3 places where they didn't ask for my license to confirm my age). It worked out fine. My parents weren't necessarily pleased, but they were my ears, so they dealt with it. Thankfully, I never had any issues with infections or anything like that. I agree that the age to do it is when your dd is old enough to ask, and old enough to help take care of them. JMO. As far as my girls go, I haven't figured out how we will handle that one yet. And, thank goodness, they haven't asked!

We pierced DD's when she was 5 months old. She did cry, and was startled, but she'll never remember the pain (I do and I was 10 years old) and she's so used to having them that she never plays with them or tries to pull them out. It's a personal decision, I think. If you wanna wait, more power to you...but she'll probably ask eventually.

I agree completely. I waited until my dd asked for her ears to be pierced. She was 4 when she asked. She and I went to lunch and then to the mall and made a special day of it. She is 9 and still talks about it. It was a very special occasion for both of us.

To my horror when we left the jewelry store after getting them pierced she asked if she could get her belly button pierced next. That one will wait until she is at least 13.

Again, JMO.

My thought exactly. My Mom waited until my sister and I were old enough to decide ourselves if we wanted pierced ears. What if your DD decides later that she didn't want her ears pierced?? JMO. :D

My dd asked to have them pierced starting at about 3.5 yo. I told her that it was like getting a shot at the doctors office and would hurt for a minute but get better. She changed her mind. She continued to ask off and on for the next year. Then on the way to the doctor's office for her Kindergarten shots she asked again. I told her that if after she had the shots she could be brave enough to get her ears pierced I'd take her. She had the shots and cried a little jumped down and said let's get my ears pierced. I knew she was truley ready. I took her to Claires. The girl working didn't want to do them and gave me quite an attitude. We ended up waiting about 20 minutes for another worker to come on so they could do both ears at once. She had so much fun picking out her earrings. She had them pierced at the same time and didn't even cry. She was such a big girl and so proud of herself. She was old enough to help me remember to clean them and I only used the studs or 14 c gold earings for about 9 months. Now she wears everything and knock on wood has not had an infection.
