Do they have a separate art room? Maybe each child keeps supplies in the art room for art class?

this is what i was thinking but on the same hand if they needed the supplies for the art room i feel they should have put them on the list example 2 sets colored pencils instead of springing it on parents once the kids has started school...

When my children were in elementary school they had an "art bag". It was a tote bag they kept on their peg or in their cubby, and they kept all their art type supplies in it. Then they could get them out to use them in class, and they would just all take their bags to art class. Seems easier than buying 2 sets. I know alot of that art stuff my kids could reuse. They would never use half of the sketchpad sheets, etc.

They take art in a separate room, BUT the note reads..."We will be using the above throughout the year. Your child may want to get a box of some type to put their supplies in, but they must keep them located in their lockers as I do not have enough storage room for every student."

So why can't he just take his supplies from his desk in his regular classroom??? The only thing on the list that they hadn't asked for before was a sketch pad...everything else is duplicated.

Why don't you ask the teacher?

Stuff like this doesn't bother me, but I always have tons of supplies at home since I buy in bulk. My one son goes thru 20+ glue sticks a year, he always needs more for some reason. My other son is a fan of new colored pencils, so we always have a surplus. I also use school type supplies in stockings for my kids, my neices etc

Ya know...if she'd have mentioned it with their original supply list, it wouldn't have been a big deal. So why wait 'til all sales are over and then send a note home? We always have a few extras too, we have to have with three kiddos in school...but I just really don't see the point of doubling up. She really should just suggest they bring their supplies from class. And it's an ART room...why would an art room not already have these things? Exactly how did she spend her alotted money for the year??

Oh gosh, nothing is on sale near you anymore? School supplies are still on sale here in Ohio at WalMart, Target etc That's a shame.

Unfortunately, it's probably that the art teacher's allocation for art supplies probably doesn't nearly cover all the supplies she needs and uses. It's too bad but I think all too common.

All of our local schools went back to school last week...if it's still on sale, it's no longer in stock. LOL

My dd's teacher is still adding stuff to her list! Yesterday, dd came home and said she needed a college theme book (I'm not sure if I'm wording it right -- it's the book with the black and white cover that you write in) for keeping a journal. Forget that! I bought a pack of notebooks from Target, 10/$1, and she will be taking one of those to school to use for a journal. This is starting to get ridiculous!

Like Abbysmommy, our kids have already returned to school, so the shelves that contained the school supplies are bare. Plus, last weekend was our tax-free weekend, so that's when everyone went out and bought up tons of school supplies. The teacher could have told dd on Friday that she needed a theme book and we could have picked it up over the weekend, but no, let's wait until all the school supplies have been bought out. GRRRRR....
