Why must I fill out emergency information on four different forms?? What's wrong with conservation (conserving trees and not filling the landfill with unnecessary waste)?? Can't we just fill out a form for changed information from last year? I can guarantee that my child's name, date of birth, social security number, etc. has NOT changed since May...no matter what. Why can't there be a simple form for address change, possible new allergies and possible phone number or doctor changes?? That's all that would've changed. Sheesh.

I asked our school that very question a few years ago and the staff told me that in a perfect world, that would work...LOL. But that they have found that folks don't update information as they should and they get better, more accurate information if it's written out fresh, each year.

They could send it home just like the whole thick packet thing they send home every year...I mean, in a perfect world, they'd get all of those thick packets back too...but they don't...so what would be the difference?

I agree with you. You would think that in this day and age they could keep a master in a computer and only update it when needed. I know that at our school emergency info is kept in the nurse's office, the main office, and in the classroom itself. That's 3 different forms for the same kid.

Our school gets them all back. I work the office every year with a group of parents for this specific purpose, getting the forms back and filed for each kid. But that's our school. At our school, if you don't return some of the forms, I forget which ones, maybe the medical ones, they can refuse your child entry to the school and you're called to come pick them up until they get the proper forms. We have a very good return rate, there are usually just a few ones that we have to chase after a bit.

Our last school district did it this way...SO much nicer. This one here does it with all the paperwork. I was ready to scream during registration. My favorite part was:
1.What school did your child attend last?
2. Where was that school located?
3. What state was that school in?
4. What county was that school in?
AND IT WAS FOR THE SAME DAG'UM SCHOOLS THAT I WAS SITTING THERE FILLING THE INFO OUT FOR! AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!

In our kids school they will send home a copy of last years info for returning students. You have to initial it the same or correct any changes. So we don't fill it all out every year.

This year, not only did I get a student profile for my dd that we just had to update and sign, I also got a (get this) student application (that had to be completely filled out) that had the exact same info as the student profile that we had to update! Two pieces of paper that basically said the exact same thing! DUH!

In our school district, they're chasing papers on up until late October or early November. Not always the parents' fault, might I add...alot of times the students don't return them even though they've been filled out. None of the papers we have to fill out would cause the children to not be kept at school unless it falls on a year that they are required a school physical and updated vaccinations and some of those papers are missing.

We had four forms this year that all asked for the exact same information ... PLUS a rolodex card with all the same info. The four forms are for office, classroom, first aid room and school bus...and the rolodex, I'm assuming, is for quick reference in the office.

Martha, trust me when I say it could be worse I spent 3 hours last Monday to enroll Simon. The reason The district has decided to switch everything over to computer. So we go in & all the info is already in the system...should have been super quick. The only problem was that none of the school personnel knew how the program worked! So thanks to them trying to simplify the process I spent 3 hours waiting in line & we didn't even have to make a change
