Dh & I were invited to a new parent's party (adults only) for our ds's new school by the board of trustees. I knew about this months ago and bought a black dress and now am wondering if it would be appropriate to wear. It is mainly a sheath dress, long sleeve knit made of lightweight wool. It looks like it has an open jacket over it but it is one piece. It has some bugle beads on it, not showy just dressy. It is just below the knee length. Neckline very modest.

My friend who went last year told me I'm definitely going to want to go somewhat dressy. The party is next Friday night. The house is on a lake, so she said it got really chilly last year, even though it was in August. My question is, now looking at this dress - would it be inappropriate to wear black wool in August?! It is lightweight so I doubt anyone would even know. Of course if it is in the 90's here I'm up a creek with what to wear. I don't want to look too winter-ish. Any ideas to 'summer' it up a bit? And what about shoes? I have black patent leather pumps but that's really it to go with this dress. I don't think slides would be appropriate, I think they would be too casual. Thanks!!

Sounds like it might be a little more 'fall/winter' than August really dictates. But on the other hand, nobody will notice either. It's really your own comfort level, I always wear black slacks, heels and some sort of top to those kind of events. Just because I'm more comfortable in slacks.

I think black is good year round now..and you sound like you have a great outfit! If you are comfortable in it, heat wise, I would go for it!

Ok, just got the thumbs down from dh, he said it was too fall/wintery. I have a great pair of black pants and will maybe look for a summer (clearance) twinset tomorrow. I have black dressy sandals with a heel that will go with the pants too. Thanks everyone!!

That sounds good to me. Maybe a nice summery color! Good Luck.
