ok some of you know my mishap of doing my hair color at home. a brief overview...

me, 33 years of chestnut brown hair. began highlighting it...that turned into it turning "brassy" a few years of brassyness i finally got sick of - bought my first home solution to turn it back to chestnut and instead it turned almost black!!!

well i shampooed it a zillion times with baby shampoo and then it had a red tint to it!

lived with that for 2 months.

just went in yesterday to have a professional do it, i chose a dark chestnut again (and told her that i HATE red hair) (on me, that is) and she agreed with the color.

so what happened? its RED! and im talking like organy like!!!! she didnt know why it happened, i didnt know and my dh HATES IT!

so, do i go back to her for free to get her to try to fix it or go elsewhere...????

definately go back she should have known that it would do that since you had home color on it she should have stripped as much of that out as possible before she just applied more color(i used to do hair i have seen it all) then used the correct color combination to rid it of all the warmth i would make them do it over until it is correct.

I agree. And it CAN be done. I know! LOL I turned mine GREEN in February at home, and they took about 4 hours to do it, but they got it out AND got it to a very pretty color that I am still wearing!

I would go back. I went through something similar a few weeks ago. I had highlighted it earlier in the summer & it looked prety good. The second time...I totally stripped the color out of my hair. Really screwed it up. Did she add fillers to your hair before she added the chestnut color? They had to add yellow back to my hair and red, then the brown. I would also ask them for a deep conditioning treatment to help repair your hair. And I might add a big THANKS to MedicMama for helping me though my hair disaster! Good Luck Kelly, let us know what happens!

I would go back and have her fix it. Hair color is a tricky thing, even for hairdressers. It sometimes takes a time or two to get exactly the right mixture to get the color that will make the customer happy. I'm sure she will gladly fix it to keep you as a customer.

I'd go back and have them fix it...

My hair often looks reddish when I color it at home, that is one of the main reasons I now get it colored at a salon, because they can tone down the reds. My hair doesn't normally look like it has red in it and somehow when I color it at home, and even use 'cool' colors, it still pulled the red out of hair. My stylist is great though and I haven't had any problems since I started going to her. The salon should know how to counteract red tones when they do your color. If they can't, they need to give you your money back.

I do know that if you have alot of iron in your water, like well water, it can turn your hair other colors. The iron deposits itself into the hair shaft, not allowing much color through. I have several hairstylists in my family, and even worked in a shop during highschool, so I have seen it first hand. I am not sure if this would apply to any of you, but it might be an explanation for some mishaps.
