i really want this table - its black - for my kitchen.

i was told not to get black if i have young kids cause they will make marks in it and then it will be noticble. do any of you have a black table and agree to this thought process?

My DH & I were looking at a table for our dining room and it was pretty expense but we really liked it. So we went to the store for one last look and my DH kind of scratched it with his fingernail and it made a scratch in the table! We got up & walked out. So I would just check and make sure it's not a soft wood. Like mom23 we ended with a table that was already distressed for 1/4 of the price. Good luck!

I say, get what you want...LOL. Teach your kids to be careful with your table. Our dining room table is very dear to me and my kids know that they can't use it to write or draw on, that there has to be a tablecloth, and if not, they need to find a placemat, they can't drag stuff across it etc They know it's important to me to keep it perfect and they respect that, we have a kitchen table to use for things like homework or school projects etc

If it is for your kitchen - it will get wear and tear no matter what color it is. Just a fact of life with kids and some DHs. I agree that you could get a distressed one and not worry, or just look for one that has a protective finish on it that will handle all that life throws (or spills) on it.

I also agree with everyone else if you really want and have your heart set on a black table I would get one that is distressed. It will get marks in it and show. Also it will wear. Unless you want to get a table pad and put on a table cloth that is your best bet.
