My inlaws asked me if "Chris" had a spreader they could borrow yesterday! ARGH! That is a big pet peeve of mine - no matter who it is from! It is "our" spreader! Besides, I bought it at a garage sale ($3 - one of my better purchases) and I use it half the time.

Anybody else have that as a pet peeve? There is very, very little that is "his" or "hers" after almost 10 years!

Yeah, that strikes a nerve with me sometimes too!

I have Nuggets air fresheners in my car because I like basketball, and my Mom said..."Nuggets, huh? Oh that must be DH's team." I rolled my eyes under my sunglasses.

DH's family is good at this. But he is good at correcting them...it just doesn't sink in. Most times he'll even say "I need to talk to Tammara first, but I"ll let you know" He's so great!!

My Dh mom is like this. Gifts are from "Dh" never "us". It doesn't matter that Dh doesn't know what we got her until she opens it he gets all the credit. When we bought our house it was "dh " house. It really gets under my skin.

Mine do this as well, but in their case, they are crazy. They actually own two of everything, because FIL is so stingy he won't let his own wife use something of his. So when they say "this is his shovel" and "this is her rake" - THEY MEAN IT!!!! They are nuts.

They also say that DH was "babysitting" and regularly point out that I am living off of his money because I don't work. The few times a year we see them, DH makes a point of changing whatever diapers need changing, because it freaks out his family and we find that hilarious.

Hmmm - I wonder why we don't see them more often......

I don't think the spreader thing would bother me. However if anyone said that i'm just living off dh or that the house belongs to him i'd be ticked.

I'm trying to think of a time when my MIL has called to use something of "ours" and how she worded it. Normally she just wants to borrow her ds on a Sunday to help her around her house fixing something or installing something, and she always asks me first if she can borrow my dh for the day. I think normally she would say or ask about his tools or his tool box or just say the lawn mower or your lawn mower or snow blower meaning mine and dh's. I wouldn't care though if she did just say his because actually those things are his as I would never dream of using them. Anything lawn related has dh's name all over it.

Nah...I try not to let little things bother me. I don't WANT to be the owner of any tools that require a lot of effort, so my dh is welcome to think they're his. Would you have been as upset if someone else asked you, or do you think it could be because you're more sensitive to things they say??

My MIL will call things that are tool related or maintenance related my hubby's and if it is something home related or kid related it is mine. I think that it is just what she is used to in her life, you know the old mindset that certain things are manly and others are womanly. I dont think that she means anything about it or is trying to say that certain things are his and cetain things are mine. Its just what she is used to KWIM?
