I posted a few days about a black lab puppy.
Long story short my neighbors up the street (we live in the country so the house are fairly far apart) found a puppy. My back gate was open and they put the puppy in my backyard (i really don't want a dog/have time for a dog) I didn't even know that it was there until the next day. She kept talking about how i should keep it. NO THANKS. I said no no no. She said that she couldn't take it to her house because her dogs would eat it, and she really wanted to find it a home. So I said that i guess it could stay for a bit so she could look for a home. I told her several times that i had no food for a dog, she said table scraps. So.....okay have this damn dog.
It has been here for a few days now. I have left a message on her home machine explaining that the dog cries all the time and scratches at the door constantly. We had lattice (sp?) to keep the kids from going under the back deck, the puppy managed to get some off and goes under there. She never called back. I called her cell today and said again that i didn't know what she wanted me to do. She called back and said she was working on a home for it, and that she was calling her friend with a farm and that she would call me right back. THat was at 10 this morning, still no call.
So what do i do? I don't want to just let her out because there are dogs that will eat her. To drop her off somewhere costs money here, so what do i do now? I feel like such a sucker because i know it wouldn't be happening if DH was here. Grrrrrrr! Any advice at all would be great!!!

Call your local ASPCA and tell them what happened. They should be able to find it home pretty quickly.

I would call a "No Kill" shelter in your area.

Do you have a Humane Society near you? You could take the puppy there.

I would give the woman a deadline to find a home for the dog. You could tell her that you will keep the dog until tomorrow afternoon, then you're going to have to call animal control. You have been extremely generous to both this woman and the dog. But you have a full house of your own, and you're getting close to the end of your pregnancy. If the woman doesn't understand, then that's her problem.
