OK, we are not the kind of people who have caller-ID or anything like that (remember, we are money savers), we are on the do not call list, but we still get TONS of telemarketer calls.

I do not get mad at them when they call, because I understand that it is their job (a sucky job, but still a job) What I get mad at is when they continue ON and ON and ON and ON when I have told them no countless times (like I am going to change my mind and sign up for what they're calling for because they are pissing me off?!?!?!??? how does that theory work?) . At first, I either say "no thank you, I am not interested." then, I just say "Nope" then after that I just start to get mad. Lately it seems like they cannot pronounce our last name (even though it is not hard to pronounce at all, it is quite simple as a matter of fact). If they do not pronounce our name correctly (say our name is Wattson, they call us Wattison -- it is not wattson, but that's a good example) , I simply tell them "if you do not know how to say my/my hubbys name, then you have no buisness calling our home" I have hung up on telemarketers in the past, because they don't seem to understand what the word no means, but then we just get a call from the same company the next day (or soon after). We have tried telling these idiots to take us off of their call list, gotten names or their id number and called their "managers" or whom ever, and we've told them that we are on the do not call list...but NONE of this seems to matter! So, I am interested to see what you all do.

I understand this is the world of technology and things like that, but we are not wanting to get caller ID (we save $15 a month by not having it). My BIL calls from a lot of different pay phones and hotels because he's always traveling and never wants a cell phone- so that is ONE other example of why we don't care for caller ID.

My dh always says that he doesn't make any decisions over the phone.

Or when they say how are you...just start telling them all about your day and talk non-stop until they hang up on you!

I usually just say not interested and hang up.

Hanging up doesn't seem to work for us, simply because the same company calls back over and over again- for example we got a call from (lets just say) Jake at BB protection agency well, I hung up...so the next day April calls from the BB protection agency...I tell her no, hang up again and three days later, yup!!! Ken calls from BB protection agency...I tell him that they have called me twice already and I am ready to report this agency. I get his name and the number to reach his "manager" at and the so called manager just says that he's taken me off of the list...well, you guessed it! Ryan from BB calls me two hours after I speak to the so called manager and tries pushing the same old speach...
this is just this last week of telemarketing stories... I just wonder what others do...like I said hanging up doesn't seem to work. Maybe it's just this one place that is hassling us. I have no idea?

we just give them smart butt comment . Window sales people calling hence we just tell them we live in a cave, no matter what they are trying to sell you can always come up with something.

I googled "fun with telemarketers" and found this one!
Aha! Jokes > Office Jokes > Fun with telemarketers
If they're gonna bug you, at least have some fun with it!

I would so be recording them and then when they say they are from BB I would say could you please hold. Then play back their whole talk talkie paragraph that they all read to you. I am sure they will hang up.

Three Little Words That Work!!
(1)The three little words are: "Hold On, Please.."
Saying this, while putting down your phone and walking off (instead of hanging-up immediately) would make each telemarketing call so much more time-consuming that boiler room sales would grind to a halt..
Then when you eventually hear the phone company's "beep-beep-beep" tone, you know it's time to go back and hang up your handset, which has efficiently completed its task.
These three little words will help eliminate telephone soliciting.

(2) Do you ever get those annoying phone calls with no one on the other end?
This is a telemarketing technique where a machine makes phone calls and records the time of day when a person answers the phone.
This technique is used to determine the best time of day for a "real" sales person to call back and get someone at home.
What you can do after answering, if you notice there is no one there, is to immediately start hitting your # button on the phone, 6 or 7 times, as quickly as possible This confuses the machine that dialed the call and i t kicks your number out of their system. Gosh, what a shame not to have your name in their system any longer !!!

(3) Junk Mail Help:
When you get "ads" enclosed with your phone or utility bill, return these "ads" with your payment. Let the sending companies throw their own junk mail away.
When you get those "pre-approved" letters in the mail for everything from credit cards to 2nd mortgages and similar type junk, do not throw away the return envelope.
Most of these come with postage-paid return envelopes, right? It costs them more than the regular 37 cents postage "IF" and when they receive them back.
It costs them nothing if you throw them away! The postage was around 50 cents before the last increase and it is acco rding to the weight. In that case, why not get rid of some of your other junk mail and put it in these cool little, postage-paid return envelopes.

One of Andy Rooney's (60 minutes) ideas.
Send an ad for your local chimney cleaner to American Express. Send a pizza coupon to Citibank. If you didn't get anything else that day, then just send them their blank application back!
If you want to remain anonymous, just make sure your name isn't on anything you send them.

You can even send the envelope back empty if you want to just to keep them guessing! It still costs them 37 cents.

The banks and credit card companies are currently getting a lot of their own junk back in the mail, but folks, we need to OVERWHELM them . Let's let them know what it's like to get lots of junk mail, and best of all they're paying for it...Twice!

Let's help keep our postal service busy since they are saying that e-mail is cutting into their business profits, and that's why they need to increase postage costs again. You get the idea !

If enough people follow these tips, it will work ---- I have been doing this for years, and I get very little junk mail anymore.
THIS JUST MIGHT BE ONE E-MAIL THAT YOU WILL WANT TO FORWARD TO YOUR FRIENDS!
