Our dog Solomon (I know I am spelling that wrong.) Solly was DH's "good boy" a AKC registered collie - majestic and loyal. He was DH's constant companion for 13 yrs.
Last night he lost the use of his legs, he was in excruciating pain. We're not sure if it was his age and history of arthritis or if he was hit by a car recently. He was barking and crying non stop for hours so it was decided I would go to my daughters apt down the street to sleep (I had to get up at 6am to go to work. When I came home at 6am Solly was gone. DH said she went to sleep around midnight, was barking again at 3am so he gave her more asprin and some water - he had an appt at 7:30am at the vet.
He is taking it pretty hard, I expect his nearly 70 yr old parents will as well since we have shared "custody" with them for most of his life. DH is out back now digging a hole to bury his friend and intermittant;y sobbing. He insisted on doing this alone - I feel so helpless and guilty because I have to leave for work as soon as I send this message.
Please add him to your long list of prayers to find some peace in his day.
