Yep, vacation is over! They came to install our new a/c and gas furnace today and couldn't do it. Well, they wanted to redo the sheetrock, lower the platform, etc. because they measured wrong. They don't make a model that would fit in our existing a/c closet.

The installer (who is contracted with Sears) was VERY helpful and gave me some information that he did not want Sears to know he said. He told me not to do it. (I was already thinking that anyways.) He said they would want him to do it and he, honestly, was not that great at sheetrock. He recommended either another brand that has a squattier furnace or going to a heat pump.

We had a heat pump in Georgia and I liked it ok in the winter, but I really liked our lower bills once it was installed. My dh doesn't like the heat from it as well as what we have now. I am leaning towards the heat pump because, WE LIVE IN FLORIDA! We will be using a/c 10 months and heat maybe 2! I can live with ok heat those two months if it means more efficient a/c those other 10 months. I would have encouraged that already, but I didn't think that was an option. The installer told me they would just tap off the gas for the heat and put in a heat pump. He siad if it was his house that is what he would do for more efficient cooling.

So, any thoughts on heat pump v. gas furnace? I got Sears to cancel the existing order, but they don't want to lose the sale completely so they are going to price me a heat pump. I guess we are starting from ground zero.

Ugh. In the meantime, do you have A/C????? We have a gas furnace here..but that is a first for us. We have always had a heat pump...with no problems.

Sorry it did not work out for you! I have no idea what a heat pump even is (is it something they use in warmer climates?) So I am no help there. We have hot water heat, so no central air for us!

Hope you get something figured out soon!!

Yes, just not very efficient a/c. It won't really go below 80. So, we will survive, but I was so looking forward to getting the new one in and being comfortable again!

After two weeks in the mountains and Ohio, it was great! The highs while we were there were in the 80s. Then we come home to a high of 92 - which is lower than normal!

I would go with the heat pump. Mil's energy bills seem to be higher in a years time with her gas furnace. I am very pleased with the heat we get from our heatpump. I do miss the warmer air coming out of gas heat, but I think a heatpump is more efficient.

I am not really sure what to tell you - we have a gas heat and electric air. I LOVE gas heat - it really warms up so quick. BUT you are in Florida and would not have to use heat very much. We has a heat pump in our old house and honestly it was fine. We did not have tho option of gas heat there.
