My dd will be 6 next week. The only thing she wants is a trampoline! It seems she has everything else so I have not clue what to get her. Do any of you have any advice about getting a trampoline? I don't think I would want one unless I had one of those enclosure things that keeps you from falling off. How long does one last?

They are dangerous, yes I paranoid, but.....My dh works in an opthomologist's office and a child came in a couple years ago that was bouncing on a trampoline and fell on one of the springs and impaled his eye. I wouldn't own one. My kids asked for one, I bought them a bouncy house and they love it. You can get them at walmart for probably around the same price or cheaper than a trampoline and they are super safe.

Sorry to be a downer but I would NEVER, EVER, EVER own a trampoline, too many people that I know that have them have had someone elses kid got hurt on it and it always cost them a bunch of money to pay medical bills and one of them even restulted in a lawsuit!! I'm sure many people have them and don't have any problems but I'm not willing to take that chance, Sorry, JMO, HTH!!

I wouldn't get one either because you can suppervise your child on it, but you never know what other kids would do. My friend had one and her drunk neighbors came over and were jumping on it and her mom had to call the police because they wouldn't leave. Imagine if her mom wouldn't have been there

I'm with the others here. They just aren't safe enough for me to ever get one, even with the net around them. Treehugger's idea of a bouncy house sounds like a good compromise to me.

I would never own one either. It is a big problem between me and dh. He thinks when we buy a house and have a yard we are getting one. His sister has one and dd loves going on it with them. They do have an enclosure so she can't fall off but I hate them. When I was 13 I was jumping on one like I had done a thousand times before and I went to jump on me knees and back up again something I had done a thousand times. I slipped from my knees and hit my forehead and then flipped back and hit the back of my head. I missed 2 weeks of school and I was very sick with a concussion. I was sick for a whole summer with headache problems. DH thinks that just becuase I got hurt on one doenst mean that our girls will but I am still too nervous.

I did get my dh a jumpolene thing that I blow up and she jumps in and it is a small one but perfect for her and she loves it.

Ok we just got one for our dds. Their bdays are 3 weeks apart and it was inlaws present to the both of them. We have the netting and the spring covers I know its not foolproof but it makes me feel better. I see it as great exercise for my kids and we only let them jump one at a time like the instructions say. Its been great exercise for dh and I too.

I definately would not buy one. I work in EMS and have seen many kids and adults get injured on these things. They are dangerous even with the enclosures. My kids know that even if they are at a friends house and they have one that they are not allowed to play on it. I would do the bounce house too. Much safer.

I say get it. My aunt is a pediatrician and she has one for her kids. I was surprised and asked her about it. She says she does see some injuries from them but not as many as one would think and they are almost always from misuse. She said she likes them because it's such great exercise for the kids and they really enjoy it. I bought a bounce house for while our kids are small and will get a trampoline was they get older. I would not recommend a bouce house for a six year old.

I say get one and use it as a FAMILY. I feel that all the times kids are getting hurt on them is when the parent is not there with them usuing it or standing by it. Just becaus you check on them dones't mean that is safe enough. also now they sell all kids of things for them my cousin that is 5 has one and it has the pad that goes on the spring and they also has a net up around it so that if he falls over near the edge he goes into the net and not on the padded springs. I think all in all it is a toy to be used with a parent right there at arms reach and not for someone that likes to have a toy as a sitter for their kids. In some cased a swing set is just as dangerous. As some other out door toys
