I am a huge procrastinator, so I just did some school supply shopping today.

The Kindergarten list:

lg back pack (have one)
lg box of tissues (no prob)
lg pkg of napkins (no prob)
lg bttl hand sanitizer (great, no kuddies)
lunch box (check)

*****TEN (10!!!!!) .77 (lg) Elmers (no substitues) GLUE STICKS (PROBLEM ) ***
I went to the Right Aide today and they only had 5 "Elmers" lg glue stickes left at $2.59 each. That would be $25.90 if they had all 10.

$10 Donation for craft supplies and party supplies (alright, I guess)

Other grades are allowed to get just (solid glue sticks). Kindergarteners and preschool (new in the school) only Elmers. YIPES

The first grade list is longer, but not as specific, except for "Fiscar" scissors (we have them here, he can take those.

I ignore the name brands on my sons list and get the items I feel is sufficient.

I dont see why they would need Elmers only. Maybe they want Elmers in case the young kids eat it?? and it would be non toxic?? I dont know.

My son is going to start the first grade and on his list was to have 1 of those one time use cameras. I still wonder what for?? But when the time comes that he needs it, Ill get it for him, as for now it can wait.

I agree...and if you can't find them, I will be happy to run to WalMart, who still has them on sale, and I will mail them to you! WOW. Just what will he be doing with TEN of them anyhow?!?!

Well I always buy Elmer's just because I feel like it works well. Just like I buy Faber Castell or Crayola crayons. The Rose Art ones just don't work as nicely. But that's us. We're big into drawing at our house.

I bought some no-name glue sticks in a pinch last year and they didn't work at all...I'll never do that again. Our Target still has lot of school supplies out on sale, I don't know if they have glue sticks still but it's worth a shot. If you find a good deal on the smaller ones, just buy those, I wouldn't worry about the size necessarily.

My younger son goes thru glue sticks like crazy at school. I tease him that he eats them because we go thru like 20 a year.

At our school, the teacher uses those disposable cameras to take pictures of the class throughout the year and then the parents get pictures in frames for certain holidays or at the end of the year. It's really cute.

2.59 each that must be the big ones! they have big ones and little ones I am sure your teacher is probably asking for the little ones ( i hope) They should be cheaper.

Ok, after re-reading your post and realizing you needed the BIG glue sticks, I have to recall my last post! (sorry). Amazon still has a 12-pack of the larger ones, but it's $16. Still better than buying them individually, but who knows how much shipping would be... LARGE Elmer's Glue Sticks

Maybe I should just go to bed...

I remember reading somewhere that their kids kindergarten teacher requested a disposable camera and they thought it was stupid. However..... the teacher took photos of the kids all year with their camera and at the end of the year the teacher presented each kid with a album of their pictures. Maybe that is what your son's teacher is doing???????

Thanks everybody, I am going to be taking a run up to Walmart on Friday, I'll compare prices there with Amazon. I guess it's probably one of the downfalls of living in a little town with only a few stores, they can really get you sometimes on the prices.

Last year my son's kindergarten teacher sent home a photo album at the end of the year, it was so cute and one of the nices gifts I have ever received. She never asked for the camera, but if she had it would have been so worth it. There is nothing sweeter than to see the smiles that we miss while our little one's are at school.
