First let me say, I CANNOT BELIEVE I'M TYPING UP A RESUME!!!!!!!!

Okay...

It's been years since I have worked out of the house. I have tons of past professional office experience to put on my resume, but then the big blank spot between then and now. Should I leave my most recent office experience (yrs ago) as my most recent work and just give a concise explaination of what I've been doing with myself in my cover letter or fill in that space w/ some jazz about me helping dh with his business (ie: marketing the band and such).

My resume is set up with out dates or any such thing. It is called and accomplishment resume, and higlights the accomplishments of my career, not when they took place, it also does not list all the positions I have held in the past, just a few representative one, such as : Managed a daycare center 3years.

What kind of job are you trying to get? If you are looking for admin or office manager kind of thing, a lot of things changed over the years, phone system, computers, softwares. If you are familiar with new techonology I would put that on your resume and I would also have a section for "skills" - managed projects, provided marketing and advertising help, dealt with vendors, etc.
Also, you can call any employement agency and they can look over your resume.
Good luck!

There is administrative assistant position listed currently at a preschool. If that one ran on a "school schedule" I would rather have that one. I was also going to inquire at our school system to see if they had any openings (first office, second maybe as an aid). I would only take the jobs if they offered benefits and the perfect hours...not picky, am I.

Admins usually have to be good in multitasking, so I would stress that on your resume. And again, (belive me, I am not trying to be condesending (sp?), but phones, faxes, copiers are SO complicated now days. I would go to kinkos and may be get a 'crash" course on it and also put something like "comfortable using standard office equipment" on your resume.
Just some ideas

I was an executive assistant for years, I'm not worried about actually doing the job. I'm really good and hoping in and learning on the go. Actually, I still live on the computer and do spreadsheats and many of the things I used to do in an office right here at home. I type so much that I think I'm probably faster than I used to be. My dh laughs at me all the time, I can have a conversation with him and my fingers are still finishing what I was doing on the computer.

I'm just a little worried about what it will look like that I haven't "worked" in so many years.

You might not be, but the future employer might, that's why I suggested listing as many skills as you can on your resume. As long as you can show/convince them that you can do it, they shouldn't be too concern with when was the last time your worked outside of you home. KWIM?
In my experience (and I've done hiring) people don't care why and where you've been. They care about your capabilities to do what they what you to do. So, don't worry about "explaining" yourself
