Hi ladies, I need a little advice. My Dh is thinking of joing the national guard, What can I expect with him being in that service? Will he have to go overseas? How long is training? Please any advice would be so helpful.

I was an Army wife for a couple of years. I could tell you what that was like, but unfortunately the Guard is a totally different experience. I can say that it was very lonely at times when my husband was called away. But, then I didn't have our 2 sons yet, so I did a lot of volunteer work to keep myself busy. If I had children, it would have been much harder. I hope you find good advice to your question...I wish I could help more!

My husband says that he believes the Guard has a mandatory 6-month overseas tour. (but he's not 100% certain) They do have a big enlistment bonus, on the positive side. Also, for training, it depends on how he is enlisting. (what job) I do know someone who is in the Guard who is actually in Iraq now......
