I know it breaks your heart to hear this from a child. My dd told me and dh that no one would play with her at recess or want to sit by her. I asked her teacher about it. She paid special attention to my dd at recess and lunch. She reported back that she did indeed have other kids wanting to play and eat with her.

Is there a side street you can park and watch at recess to see what happens, just make sure he can't see you? If you continue to have concerns I would ask the teacher.

I hope tomorrow is a better day! I'd mention it to the teacher, she can keep an eye out, or maybe help him get to know someone. HUGS!

My son had the same problem last year in SK. We worried like you and it just seemed like he never made any connections. Thankfully, I became good friends with one of the moms. I also helped her as a room mother too for his class. He soon started feeling more included at school. He felt like he had a buddy there, and felt special that I was there for all events. We started 1st grade today, and it is like everyone had matured. He had a wonderful 1st day, and played with several kids. I'm hopeful that he will make one or two close friends this year. It will get better for your son!

That is heartbreaking for us moms to hear. Poor baby. I'm sure that in 3 months from now, this will be a thing of the past. He'll develop his own circle of friends...I'm sure of it!!

Awww! Poor little peep! I have one going into K as well in a few weeks. Hopefully his day today will be better! I'll be thinking about him.

On another note, he sure is young! In Ohio you have to be 5, and most of the kids are around 6 when they start.

Kids have to be 5 before the cut off in the middle of September. So there are just a few that start when they are 4. There is one little boy in another kindergarten class that won't be 5 until the beginning of September. DS is lucky that his birthday is next Tuesday. The other schools around here start either next week or the week after, so if he were going to those, he would be 5 when school started.

Thanks everyone for your replies. You've made me feel better. You're probably right, it will just take a few days or so for the kids to be comfortable with one another, and start to become friends. It doesn't matter if he has tons of friends, I would just like him to have at least 1-2 kids he plays and talks with. I'll see how his day went today and I'll let you know if it got better.
