I slathered dd's whole head with some hair and scalp treatment that contains olive oil and let it sit for 30 minutes with a shower cap on. Trying to kill off any possible hatched 'nits' plus her scalp is dried out from other products. Now i can't get it out.....i tried washing her hair with Dawn dish soap, it's still oily. She's not happy with me right now, especially when i told her that grandpa had that look back in the 1950's I'm gonna leave it for tonight, but i need a way to get it out tomorrow!

Wow! Dawn didn't touch it!?!

Do you have a clarifying shampoo? I would put that on and leave it for a few minutes, then rince it really well. Or, how about vinegar?

Get some Prell - it will strip anything out of hair. It's hard to find, but it should work.

Or let her go swimming tommorrow - a chlorinated pool will dry out her hair, especially in the sunshine.

Try Dawn again. It will take more than one try.

Vinegar or lemon juice...just have her make sure her eyes are covered well.

I must have missed another post...all I've got to say is, BLESS HER HEART!! We went through head lice about FOUR times last year. Just one child at first, then she gave it to her two sisters in the last round. She HAD to be getting it at school or on the bus because we were honest-to-goodness doing all we could here at home. We only finally got rid of it when school was out...which was another indication it was coming from there!

I would try to find Prell also.. Or any green dish det. for some reason the green color drys.. If not you can sprinkle some baking soda in her hair, it will absorb the oils.. Then shampoo with prell..

Martha, how long does it take to get rid of completely??? DD gave it to me also,so i'm treating my own head every 2-3 days , and it's been a week now since this all started and i'm about to go crazy! I shaved dh and ds's hair this weekend, neither of them have it but i thought by shaving their heads i can prevent it better. My water bill is gonna be SO high from all the laundry everyday!

One treatment is all it's SUPPOSED to take, but most often takes more than that. Are you combing through her hair with a nit comb and making sure ALL of the eggs are off of the hair? You have to divide the hair into TINY sections and check it over THOROUGHLY. It's a pain in the BUTT and it takes HOURS to do...but it's really the only way.
