(I don't know if this is the section I should post this in, so feel free to move this rant if you need to!)

I swear, every day I get so much junk mail from some "embassy" in some foreign land, or some "long lost relative" who has a pile of money for me. (yea....RIGHT) It's a different name every day!

How do these scammers get my email, anyway? How am I so lucky to get spammed by them so much? My Yahoo spam filter isn't working so well, I suppose. Gee whiz!

Does anyone else deal with this?

I found this information: OptOutPrescreen and I register my name to stop get the junk mails. Here is the weblink: https://www.optoutprescreen.com/?rf=t Also I want to add other weblink of FTC that have more information about unsolicited mail, telemarketing and email: Unsolicited Mail, Telemarketing and Email: Where to Go to “Just Say No” Hope both information will help.

A long time ago I set up a separate email account for everything except personal mail and it was one of the best things I ever did! All my junk mail ends up there, I just deal with it from one email and if I decide to change my email, I still have my same personal email address that I don't have to mess with. So while I still get it, I feel like I have more control over it. A lot of junk mail, there is just no way to unsubscribe...it ends up in my spam box and I just delete it. If there is an unsubscribe link, I do use it and that does seem to help.

I don't sign up for any of those freebies or surveys, I seemed to be getting tons of junk email from those places and it just wasn't worth it for me.

Jenny, I had never gotten those type of e-mails until about 2 months ago, so I am thinking it must have been something I signed up for (which makes me even madder b/c I only sign up for it if I recognize the company name!) . Luckily we have a decent spam filter, but some of the cr*p still gets through!

Just wanted you to know you're not alone

Thanks for all the good tips! You know, I did sign up for a survey site AND also a bunch of freebies lately. I should have known better! Oh well...

Don't open any mail you do not recognize. I delete everything like that without opening the mail. You don't want to get infected with some bug.

I actually have 3 seperate emails. One for signing up for things, one for great deals and alerts for a savings group I belong to and a personal one. I also did the OptOutPrescreen and I don't get the garbage mail anymore either.
