I need some ideas for Thank You gifts. My mother in law, plus two sster in law's (one of them just joining the family) want to throw me a baby shower in September. I've never been to one, and don't know much about them at all, don't even know any of the people they are wanting to invite (I only have one friend around in this area) but common sense dictates I should get each of them something as a Thank you for being so sweet and thoughtful, even though I've told them it's not really necessary. The problem is... what? I'm also wanting to get something as a thank you for my friend who loaned me her baby swing, and a bunch of blankets and stuff. No idea what to get her, either.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! ray:

To be perfectly honest, I don't think you are obligated to get them a thank you gift for throwing you a baby shower. I think a heartfelt "thank you so much for doing this for me!" at the shower is great and maybe a note afterwards, thanking them individually again. If you really feel that you have to get them something, you know them better than any of us would...would they enjoy a book? Flowers? A candle? Etc

As far as your friend goes, I think the best thank you for loaned items is to get them back to the owner as soon as you're finished, making sure the item is clean and undamaged. At that time, you can send a note with a small gift or plant or whatever. In the meantime, I'm sure she'd appreciate a little note in the mail, telling her how much you appreciate the loan of the item...I don't know that you have to get her a gift but it's really up to you.

I was really surprised when I loaned a backpack carrier to a "friend of a friend" and she never returned the item to me and when I asked about it, she got a little offended. I think she thought of it more of me GIVING it to her, as opposed to loaning to her. She did find someone else's backpack carrier in her garage and tried to give it back to me as mine...LOL. It was FILTHY and broken! Hello? Not that you would do that, but it's just amazing the way people treat things.

I agree that you don't really don't need to give a thank you gift to someone giving you a shower. I think just a nice thank you card is all that you need to do. I have given sevral showers and not recieved a thank you gift, which I did not expect either, I was just told thank you and given a nice not thanking me for what I had done. that is all I expected.
As for the borrowed items, returning them when you are finished with them, if you really feel the need to give her a gift maybe a gift card to like Starbucks or a craft store if she is into that or her favorite little restaurant.

I agree with the other ladies!! a nice thank you note is all. the person that loaned you the swing just make sure its back in good shape and a thankyou at the end!! if you really feel better about getting her something just get a nice thing of flowers or pick up a cup of coffee and chat with her for a while!!

Agreed with all of the above. How nice of them, though. You will have fun, I'm sure!

ITA. I think its sweet of you to want to do something nice for them for doing something nice for you, but I think your genuine happiness is all that they care about. It certainly never hurts to send a thank you card. Everyone appreciates those.

Enjoy your shower!!!
