Last night was promotion night at the karate school. Daniel promoted to BLACK BELT! Andrew promoted to brown belt/black tip, and Stephen promoted to blue belt/black stripe! Stephen and Andrew were also inducted into the "Banana Split Club" because they are able to do full splits now! They got patches for their uniforms and will be guests of the instructors for a special banana split date. It was a fun night. We had the belt graduation followed by a party with all the kids favorite foods and decorated cake.

Here are a couple of pics from the night. The first is Daniel with all his karate buddies. Daniel is the one with the "toothy" smile. Andrew is the "thumbs up" kid. They call themselves the "Council of the Elders" because they are the highest ranks of the kids' class. Daniel is the "Lead Elder" because he is the highest ranked kid. The next pic is of Stephen with the lead instructor (owner) of the karate school.


The instructors had some wonderful things to say about the boys. It made my "mommy heart" proud! There were also lots of guests (family and friends) to congratulate the boys!

I know exactly how you feel. Everytime my son tests for his new belt, I get excited.
By the way why type of karate are your sons learning? Mine is learning Tae Kwon Do.

I like that Banana Split Club thing. I should mention that to my sons school.
My son can sorta do the splits (legs going outwards, instead of 1 leg in front, other in back) Soon enough he will touch the floor.

Our whole family studies RyuKyu Kempo - Okinawan Karate. It's pressure-point based. This style is definitely self-defense not sport oriented. It is a very practical form of the martial arts. Not "fancy" but practical.
