With DH leaving for China next week (he will be taking his cell phone with him) I am wondering if I should get a prepaid cell phone. I know there are people who use TracFone, but would like to hear advise about how well it works if you have used or if you are using it. I am pretty limited to what my options are in the area that we live in. We have four options of cell phone companies, but only two prepaid options. Virgin is another option, but I haven't heard many good things about the pre-paid service they offer in our area. What are your thoughts and any advise?

Weel I have one and I don't like it very much! But that is only 'cause I talk to much and I need to get minutes way too much! My service is ok, not the best, but it does work.

Can you get Boost Mobile where you are? I like it much better than tracphone. There is also the option of Vonage. It runs through your modem and you can hook it up to a regular house phone. You get for around $32 a month after taxes unlimited local and long distance calls including some overseas. Have to check the website to see if China is included. They even send you a router and your first month is usually free. It's much cheaper than a cell phone, and you have the option to do things like call forwarding, call waiting, etc all included with the price. If your power goes out, or your internet connection doesn't work, you can have the number set up to forward to a different number, like your cell so you don't miss any calls. It also has voice mail and you can log on the web to see who called and keep a record.

Vonage - A better phone service for less

Well- my mom has a Virgin phone and she really likes hers- the only issue she had one time is the phone card rang up wrong and she could not return it or get credit for her minutes. My brother and my oldest has a tracphone- they both really like theirs. Tracphone usually has offers where you can get bonus minutes.

I have a Tracphone because I don't use a cell phone much. You have to use the minutes up in three months. I paid $50 to make my minutes that I already had good for a year(the old minutes roll-over when you buy new minutes). I had so many minutes not used, that it was better for me to just pay the $50 to keep my minutes for a year.

The service is fine. I am in a rural area and we don't have many providers either. I have used my Tracphone traveling and it works fine. The good thing is that Tracphone is almost everywhere if you ever end up traveling with it.

Is your husband's cell phone for work? If it is a personal contract, how much would it cost to add a second phone onto his contract. If it is from his work, you can't do that, however.

My dh has had a tracfone for about 2 years and it always works great. He doesn't use many minutes so it is very inexpensive for him.
