I always color my hair in the fall. I can't remember the brand I used before, I have used so many. They all seem to lighten up quickly. Do you have a favorite brand?

Yes I always do mine at home. can't affford the salon prices...that would be considered a luxury. I can't remember the name of the one I usually use. Maybe when I see it on the shelf I'll recognize it.

I did for many, many, many years...until it just stopped covering my gray. So I get it done in a salon now and it's worth it to me in that my grays stay covered! I also use a color depositing shampoo, which is wonderful! I only need to get my whole head colored about once a year, every other time, I just have to get my roots done.

When I did do it at home, I liked L'Oreal Preference or Excellence.

I've always wanted to either color or highlight my hair at home, but I've been to scared that I'd mess it up or do a shade that looks bad on me, lol!

I don't do it in the summer, but my hair is VERY blonde in the summer and starts to grow in darker blonde in the fall/winter/spring. I also dye my hair at home. I have to agree with Oregano. I like L'Oreal dye products. I also like Hydriance (spelling???) The Hydriance seems to be nicer on my hair than other products I've used. Every once and a while I'll get a buy one get one free coupon for a box of dye, so I use that coupon.

The one I used last (in April) was Feria by L'Oreal. It had a very strong smell to it and it was one that I was most pleased with so far. It made my hair feel smooth, the color lasted for quite a while and it just looked good.

I haven't colored my hair in a few years. I never wanted to spend a lot of money in the first place, so I always picked up the cheapest one I could find on the shelves at Walmart. It always came out okay, but I needed to condition like crazy.

I also have heard good things about L'oreal. My hairdresser quit working in the salon so she could be a SAHM, so now she does it out of her home. She does a great job, too! I pay only $35 for foil highlights with her.

I color it myself, Ive even highlighted it myself too. I use Loreal Feria for coloring & Herbal Essences kits for highlights. But not at the same time.

My friends say it looks like a professional did it.

I've not been brave enough to do it. I have it highlighted professionally. It is nice to know someone that has done highlights at home. Any tips? How did you do the back of your head?

when you do highlights at home you get a "pull through" bag to put on your head. Some times my mom has come over and Pulled it through for me, other times I have done it myself. I have gotten the kits that don't have the "pull through" bag and personally I don't like them as much...I have done it myself and it takes a bit longer to pull through the hair in the back, but they give you this little metal/plastic tool to pull hair though with and just run that tool over the back of the plastic cap/bag and it's easy to find where the holes in the bag are. I have been told that the salons don't pull much through in the back anyways. It's more in the front. It is easy to do at home, it's just time consuming.
