I was reading an article about how infertility can be caused by chronic stress. I remember the advice of my infertility doctor who said to reduce the stress in my life. Yeah right! Infertility treatment alone seems designed to CAUSE chronic stress. It is amazing anyone ends up pregnant.

Anyway, the article was by a doctor who was doing studies on the relationship between chronic stress and infertility. She found out that women who were already chronicly stressed would experience a change in brain chemistry and stop ovulating if exposed to another stress-factor even it that was eating less (dieting) or EXERCISING!

Wow, so all us chronically stressed women should not take up exercising or else it will cause more stress!

The doctor doing the study said she knows that many women are advised to start exercising to help deal with stress but the studies indicate that won't help.

I am sure the majority of doctors DISAGREE with that! I personaly can say when I feel extremly stressed out there is nothing makes me feel more better than to hit the gym and excersise!

The doctor doing the study did say it was 'chronic' stress.

I know I've had more than one doctor tell me the best way to deal with stress was to get some exercise. I have to agree. Getting out of my normal routine, doing something just for myself, giving myself time to think, breathing deeply, being outside, and MOVING does help. When live goes slightly askew, I think exercise does help. However, I also agree that trying to add an exercise routine to your schedule when you're already overwhelmed - and have been for a long time - can be detrimental. Maybe there are other places to start to get healthy like just eating decent whole-food meals on a regular basis and getting more sleep. Maybe we should all start a new exercise routine by first taking time to meditate, stretch and relax. Once we get into that habit, we can get into the habit of exercising and might be more likely to stay with it.
