I do something similar to this.

Also, I wouldn't call it mean or tough love but straight out LOVE for your children. Just b/c they don't think it is doesn't mean it isn't.

My dsd is obsedded with the tv, to the point of its like she is having withdrawals if she don't get it. She whines for all the new toys out yet she won't play, she will just lay on her bed and stare at it and nothing else. I take it away from her for punishments and DH usually gives in. She has over an acre of cleared land here and a swing set , bike--which she still won't ride right-- and 2 scooters, but she won't play. If you take the tv away she will just lay on the bed and draw pics or color, still not moving, if you send her outside she sits in one place and pouts. DH's parents have her on most weekends and they allow her to do as she pleases, which doesn't help me much!

I have a friend who doesn't let her children watch TV Monday through thursday. They are allowed to watch on the weekend, but it is limited.

WOW, well done. I constantly cringe at my dh nephew and niece, they come in from school and the tv is turned onto cartoons - which they will watch , eat in front of, do thier homework and then sulk off to bed around nine.
The have limited concentration, have no imagination left and cannot function if they do not have the tv in front of them. The power went out the other day until seven at night and they sulked around the house because they were bored and did not know what to do with them selves. It frightens me to think of how many children are like that now.
We have a no tv ban in our house, the adults in the house hardly watch it anyway with the only thing intresting us is the news.I just hope i can keep my foot down.
Good luck
