Barbie Botique- it makes me sooo angry! I just caught a glance at it and all I heard is I love shopping and I never run out of money- I looked over and saw a kid swiping a credit card after hearing the total of $200 and $150 ! Don't you think that this toy would encourage wrong spending habits in a child? With many different types of people dealing with debt and trying to get out of it and struggling- why would a toy maker make something like this- especially being Mattel- oh I get it now- they are probably losing a ton of money with all of their recalls!

The sad part is my 4 year old asked for it when the commercial was done!

I'm sorry, I laughed a little at your post!! BUT ONLY BECAUSE THATS CRAAAAAZZZYYYY and I am not surprised by it....it is very irritating....and really stupid. Why would anyone put that on their commercial? Ridiculousness, I tell you. I would send them a nasty email!! I'm actually going to be looking for this commercial soon!!!

UMMM, isn't this the same company that brought us the Barbie that had to clean up after her pooping dog?? Enough said. Another Barbie toy we will NOT be getting.

This is nuts. I can't believe some of these toy companies and what the exspect us to buy.
I do, however find the Barbie that cleans up after her pooping dog to be somewhat comical..

aaaaaaargh, that pooping dog!! My lil' one wants that.. I've finally relented on the 'never' and have told her that when she scoops the REAL DOG'S POO, then I will buy the poopin' play dog

I totally agree it is crazy! I am against even gift cards for my kids because they think that it has an unlimited amount of money on it. When they have cash, that is all they can spend, but give them a gift card, they don't know how much they have on it.. they normally go over the amount, it just isn't good.

I bought the pooping Barbie dog as a joke for a friend. FYI - Mattel recalled it. It was the magnets, I think. Or lead. Or lead magnets. Whatever.

Awhile back I saw a commercial for a Dora cash register. It had some little bar code tags that kids could put on their own toys. Then they could scan the tags and when the "price" would show up on the register they could swipe their little Dora credit card. I remember pointing it out to the hubster and saying something like "What toddler in her right mind would pay $39.99 for a cheap plastic bracelet?"

The older my daughter gets, the less I am liking the girl-oriented toys that are coming out.

the toys now are nasty, someof them anyways. and not to mention outrageous in the price area. sometimes i feel bad for my dd cuz she doesn't have all the cool trendy toys that some of the other kids have and then i stop and think atleast i still have a portion of my sanity left since i am not the one spending 40.00 on a toy dog that craps!!

RIGHT after I finished reading this thread my 26 month old son comes in and, seeing my checkbook register out on the desk asks, "What's this?" I told him, "This is where mommy writes down when we spend money, so we know how much we have and what things are costing us. This month we spent $X on the phone bill, $X on the electric (etc., etc.)." Before I made it to diapers at target (great store brand by the way) he said, "Write down when you spend money, oh me get it." He makes me so proud sometimes, lol.
