I treid to have a yardsale today. I had some 'repeat' customers that I am going to ban from all present and future yard sales. I had a sale a few weeks ago, just a quick one, to make some quick money. This lady shows up with her dh or whatever he was, and asks me for baby things. Then she grabs a huge pile of stuff, and when I counted it up, it was about 20 items including outfits. SO I quoted the price of $11 for all of it, thatis WAY less than $1 an item. She gave me a nastly look and said she only wanted to pay $4 for all of it. I was like NOPE sorry, so she dropped the stuff on the ground and walked off. Well she must have stole something, cuz the kids came over and told me they didn't pay. Whatever.
Well she shows up again today with 3 ladies and a bunch of kids. The kids plant themselves in front of all the toys and start playing with them. The same lady grabs a Gymboree dress, (I didn't ebay it because the hem came undone and i"m too lazy to fix it) and a 3 piece women's business suit (it belonged to my grandmother, too big for me Its a Jackie Smith). The suit was in MINT condition. She asks me how much and I tell her I want $5 for the suit, and and $2 for the dress. She gives me a nasty look and puts the dress back but now wants the suit and a pair of shoes and wants to pay me $2 for all of it. I said NO WAY. She keeps insisting. I'm like NO! Then dh gets upset and tells her, LOOK this is the price, either you take it or you don't, you can leave. She pulls $5 out of her wallet and says she will pay no more than $3 for both items. LOL I only gave her change back of $1.50. The nerve!
We also have a brand new tv set for sale, its a 27 inch TV with DVD and video combo. Dh had to buy it for work, and its useless for us. Last yard sale he put a price of $30 firm on it, but no one bit so he lowered the price to $200 FIRM. Same lady comes up to me and says, REmember last time I offered you $100 for that TV? I said NO I dodn't (she didn't!) so she says well I will offer you $100 for it. Dh was like The price is $200 firm take it or leave it! She left it. LOL
THEN, her 'friends' take about 30 of the 50 pair of kid shoes i had out and put them in a big pile and ask how much? So I count up the shoes, and say $1 a pair, so thats about $30. They refuse to pay it, they insist that I shouldn't not take more than .50 for them. They are all in GREAT shape, totally worth $1! Ya know if they weren't so nasty to me I might have tried to work out a deal, but they were aweful! One lady comes over with a pile of clothes, "HOw much?" So I tell her after I count up the items, and she doesn't like tha tprice of that either! I finnally said, YOU KNOW WHAT? You can't even get a pair fo shoes for $1 at Goodwill! What is your problem? The one lady says, "OH I don't go to Goodwill" I was like there is one in NOrwich, and she goes, "I know but I hate that place, I won't go there" Probably because she can't rip them off on the prices like they are trying to do to me.
SO in the end, they stole a pair of shoes, and left all the stuff they didn't buy in a huge pile for me to reorganize and put away. HOW annoying! Dh saw the one women stick a paif or little brown sandles in her purse. I was like why didn't you say anything? Cuz he didn't want to cause a sene with others there, when he wasn't sure if she already paid for them or not.
They were Haitian, and just kept speaking french the whole time. I just KNOW they were talking about me and trying to figure out how to scam me. When they got up to leave, one of the kids threw a toy at Cameron. NICE!
Just lovely. I have my first blacklisted customers. LOL!

Blech! I had a yard sale a few weeks ago and some lady stole a box that had a picture of a cow on it...I don't even know where it came from to begin with, and probably would have given it to her for a dime. She thought she was all sly about it, but I didn't say anything...geez! If she needs the darn box that bad she can have it.
Next time I will just donate everything and get the tax write off.

This is one of the reasons why my mom and I quit doing yard sales. You mark things at rock-bottom prices and people STILL want them cheaper. Sometimes people get very rude in their negotiations. Now I just donate stuff to charity or sell them on consignment. For me, yard sales have become more of a hassle than they're worth.

OMG! I am having a lawn sale tomorrow with my SIL. I have 10 boxes of kids clothes, a box of maternity clothes, baby furniture and countless toys! I am sure I will get the usual crazies that try to get everything for a buck! I simply say that is the price ~ buy it or move on! That was an actual quote from me last year when we had a lawn sale because this one woman was just a joke! My SIL spit out her soda because she couldn't believe that I just said it like that. The other customers had a good laugh too! :D

I always have that experience with Haitians at my yard sales as well. I've also had Haitians who aren't rude too. We get so many here, I at least get to see the "good side". But my experience has mostly been like yours. I can't think of a single other time I've felt treated so dishonestly in all of the yard sales we've done, and to have my things so disrespectfully thrown about. My former MIL was given a counterfeit bill once too. I've gone to school with Haitians too, and I didn't have that experience. So, it's the shopping breed that is that way. My husband has Haitian friends at work and they even talk about the Haitian shopper. It's got to be cultural on some scary level LOL.

Some people have some nerve!!!!!! You shouldn't sell them anything.
I too have had experiences like those when visiting yard sales.....people of actually taken things out of my hands (as I was just given the price)........they snatched them away and paid for it immediately.
