but all we have is scrapbooking and paper so I am putting it here. Hope that is OK!!!

I am hoping to get some help. Now that I am working at the daycare I came up with an idea. I want to take the babyfood jars - all different sizes and bigger jars too - and make homemade candles for x-mas gifts.

I am hoping someone can give me some info on doing this. i can't imagine it being extermly hard. I would really like to do scented and unscented.

Any tips you can give or any websites that might be able to help. i can not wait to try this.

You could use the jars to make gel airfreshners here is a link that tells how http://www.associatedcontent.com/art...resheners.html

for some reason it wouldn't let me copy and paste.

Good luck

It is really easy to make candles. Any craft store should ahve all the stuff. There a usually a couple different types of wax that you can buy. I have used them all and there isnt much difference. Basically you just melt the wax over a low heat. Then when it is melted you add your color and your scents. I have always bought the scents and coloring that is designed to be used in a candle. When I first started I just used an old pan and didnt use a thermometer but just winged it and they turned out fine. Be careful to not get it to hot or it will catch fire. I make them every year now and pretty much if I need a new candle I make my own so I have a special melting pot and thermometer I use. They make tabs that you attach the wick to and put it in the bottom of the jar. I will sometimes put a dab of glue under the tab so it stays put. A trick to hold the wick in place is to roll it around a pencil and lay the pencil on the top of the jar. I put the wick in while the wax is melting and then just pour the wax in the jar or whatever you are using and let it cool and you are done. This year I am making candles in clear coffee mugs with coffee beans. I am just putting a bunch of beans in the jar and then pouring the wax over the top. These turn out cute too.

I forgot to add but another fun one is to put crunched up peppermints in the wax too. I did these last year for christmas.

Another idea for holding your wick in place...Pampered Chef has the Twix-It clips...but I found the exact same thing at the Dollar Tree...several in a net bag for $1. Just pinch your wick in the clip, close it and lay it across the top of your container. If you don't know the clips I'm talking about, go to The Pampered Chef's website and look up "Twix-It Clips"

You can also make pillar candles by using empty Pringles cans. Rinse them out (quickly so the cardboard doesn't absorb the water) to get the crumbs out and let them dry...cut them down to the height you want your candle, attach the tab with your wick in it in the bottom of the can and fill with melted wax. When it hardens, you can peel the can away. OR you don't have to use the tabs...you can cut a slit in the lid of the can and run your wick through it, making sure it's long enough and just put the lid on the can as soon as you pour in the melted wax. You could do two pillar candles and tie them together with raffia for a nice teacher's gift...and you could get creative and make them layered in color and scent.

A friend's mom and I made candles a couple years ago, it's really easy as everyone else has said. Just wanted to mention we used the small bathroom Dixie cups for votive candles, they were just the right size and much cheaper than the molds the craft stores sell!
