My DH is getting snipped on thurs. After a small argument with the dr. (dr. was hesistant because dh is 25 and dr. thought that might be too young, but dh explained that 4 kids were plenty) So he is scheduled. He is a bit nervous after the dr. said that the shot feels like getting kicked in the junk for a few seconds. Then one of his buddies said that he was down for a week yikes, and that the couple day thing was bs!!

I'm surprised they gave your dh a hard time. My dh is only 26 (27? OMG I can't remember...) and they didn't say a thing about it to him when he had multiple consults for one.

Best of luck to your dh (and yours, Claire.) Hope they both have a speedy recovery.

My dh is the BIGGEST baby, so when he got snipped the doc gave him an Ativan (anti-anxiety) to take 1 hr before procedure. Dh was fine, I spoiled him all weekend, I did a big Hawaain luau thing. spent about 80.00 at a party store and decked the house out, plus bought grass skirts for me and the kids, he LOVED it, he had a relaxing weekend and only mentioned being sore once or twice, he was fine going back to work on Monday and he still loves thinking about that weekend with the fun we had, plus he got to chill in his lounge chair the whole weekend, what guy wouldnt love that??

My dh got snipped about 2 years ago. I was able to go in and be with him as the procedure was done. Our dr used twice as much anesthetic than he had used ever and he has been doing snipping for over 30 yrs. He did take a valium prescribed by dr before hand to help with dh nerves. Unfortunately anesthetic only worked partially and he felt it all. It was horrible!! I felt so bad but he held through I was very proud of him as we were walking to the car and while we were at home we was completely numb for hours!! So I just had him put up his feet in the lazy boy and popped him pain pills and of course the bag of frozen peas..I suggest get two bags so when the other is back in freezer use the other one. DH was back on his feet in 3 days. My bf dh had no problems what so ever and was back in 2 days.
So I think it is like when women have babies each birth is totally different from the other.

My husband just got this done last month. You know that 1-4% that has problems -- that was my husband. His left side ended up with an infection / hemotoma. DON'T TELL YOUR HUSBAND THIS STORY! He swelled to the size of a softball! He was put on bed rest for a week! It was a nightmare! He was in pain and a HUGE grump!

Anyway - make sure he has a jock strap -- they recommend it but my husband's doctor didn't stress it enough (doctor's words not mine) and some of his extra problems came from that. The jock strap is what actually allowed him to re-enter the real world again.

I just want to warn you- my DH got snipped over a year ago and I am pregnant with twins right now- he took his stuff in to get tested just 2 days before we found out we were pregnant and they told him that the vas. didn't work!!! there is a 30% chance that the first "snip" doesn't work...It's better to get the tubes removed- or something like that I don't remember. My DH got his tubes "burned at the ends" and although it is the easiest way to go, it doesn't always work!
After my DH had his done, he told me that the only uncomfortable part was the "pulling of the tubes" and he was sore after for about 2 days. The pain was almost 100% taken care of by a few frozen bags of peas (make sure to stock up!!!) and some tylenol or advil...
