Like Cookie metioned in the original post, she bought her house for children/grandchildren to come and stay, vacation....etc. The idea was for her children to come to her. That isn't happening. I am in the same boat. My ILS bought a house with a big guest room and also a time share in Door County over Thanksgiving with the idea that the family would travel up there for time together. Now that we have no interest in doing that, they are mad. they are also mad that we no longer go the "family" holidays, and want to have our own tradtions. We try everything to involve them in OUR traditions, but they refuse to be a part of them.
MY QUESTION...Why is it such a big deal to everyone? I know why it is a big to us that we not drive all over tim buck to on Christmas Eve, but why is it such an issue to alter holidays and such to make things easier for the younger generations. You would think we were hanging the family dog or something!
My inlaws are so set that their tradtitions not change, that we now do nothing with the family. They just do not want to drive to see us. So they choose not to see the grandkids at all. Are you serious? It is more imposrtant for them to have Christmas at THEIR house than to see the grandkids at ours.
How do you go about making them understand and except the new ways of our family?
